Summary
The creative enrichment course in digital photography will focus on capturing the experience of everyday life through the lens. Students will have technical demonstrations, brief photography theory lectures, and personalized guidance with significant time to develop their skills in capturing and artistic thinking to create photographic narratives that reflect their lived experiences. The course will conclude with a group critique where each student will share their work and engage in a discussion of their artistic choices and what they mean in the work.

The summer art course for rising 5th grade students will provide students with a comprehensive overview of middle school art. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in visual arts and experience working with middle school students. This position will involve creating and implementing an engaging art curriculum that inspires creativity, critical thinking, and artistic expression. Students can expect to practice drawing, painting, ceramics, and digital art.

Under the direction of the Summer Program Director at Geffen Academy at UCLA, the Educator will create this course of study, prepare materials, and deliver an excellent summer enrichment courses. The Educator will teach one digital photography section to students entering grades 7- 11. The course will be up to 90 minutes long and meet daily over a three (3) week period. The educator will also teach one section of middle school art to students entering grade 6 and this course will not be more than 55 minutes. All courses will be taught in-person on Geffen Academy’s campus.

Job Duties

Consistent with the department’s goals, participate in the design and development of curricula that develops a creative and innovative mindset and joy in the Geffen Academy’s students. Build a creative program for secondary school students in areas such as, but not limited to: creative thinking, meta cognition, 3D art. Support students in a dynamic process of project planning and execution of created curriculum, including hands-on opportunities for students to express themselves through multiple mediums and modalities. Consistent with department leadership’s direction, collaborate with other educators in creation of the Geffen Academy program that meets the needs and interests of the Geffen Academy’s students.
