**The Role** The Summer Associate position at Atkinson is designed to provide college students with a realistic view of what it's like to work in construction through meaningful, hands-on experiences. During your time at Atkinson, you can expect to hold one of a variety of different roles and learn the fundamentals of construction management and our business. Your assignments could include: **1. Project Development** In project development, you will learn how Atkinson acquires new work and develops and maintains relationships with clients before a shovel ever breaks ground. Responsibilities include: + Soliciting and providing preliminary evaluations of subcontractor bids + Performing quantity takeoffs + Performing scoping of bid packages + Participating in the development of project budgets and estimates **2. Project Delivery** **/** **Field Engineering & Field Supervision** Engineers in a field role help to lay the groundwork for projects and coordinate the “nuts and bolts” of work on site. Responsibilities include: + Monitoring trade work with emphasis on quality of work and safety + Working alongside and supporting Atkinson’s field craft workers + Managing project subcontractors and suppliers + Assisting with schedule management + Providing layout for excavation, sheeting, and shoring + Producing and maintaining an accurate record set of field calculations and measurements **3. Business Operations** The size and breadth of the Atkinson organization provides the opportunity for a variety of different assignments beyond the jobsite. Many of Atkinson’s departments work along with the project delivery and development teams to further develop our competitive advantage as a market leader. Whichever capacity you work in as a Summer Associate, you’ll have real responsibility and make a strategic impact on our business from day one. In addition to gaining valuable real-world experience, Summer Associates will be given opportunities to meet people throughout the organization through activities such as socials, job tours, and company events. The summer culminates with a capstone project designed to showcase your knowledge of the driving factors behind Atkinson’s business, while forming lasting bonds with your peers and engaging with company leadership. Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as geographic location, education, skills, and experience.
