General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (GD-OTS), a premier provider of ordnance weapons and tactical systems to the U.S. Department of Defense and allied nations, has an opening for a Summer Engineer Intern to join the Munitions Business Unit Engineer team at our GD-OTS headquarters in St. Petersburg, FL.

***This is an onsite/in-person internship based in St. Petersburg, FL during the dates of May 19th and August 8th***

 

Major Position Responsibilities Will undertake, initially, a range of administrative and support tasks for the Munitions Systems Large Caliber Ammunition Engineering departmentThese tasks will provide the opportunity to apply basic Engineering skills in a highly active environmentBased on experience and abilities the intern will be assigned tasks of increasing complexity that are appropriate to the level of education and skillsAs part of the intern position the department will have the opportunity to get to know the candidate and their suitability for potential future position within the companyThe right candidate should be able to demonstrate the required skills, enthusiasm and interest in the Engineering aspects the large caliber ammunition business together with an aptitude for working with various internal and external customers to achieve assigned tasks

Provides support to technical employees working in an organizational function related to the Intern's area of study

Assists with technical tasks and project support

Supports equipment set up and monitors tests and experiments

Observes results, collects data, and compiles summaries and reports

Learns technical processes and procedures

Job shadows other more experienced professionals and or support staff

May also support the documentation and updates of procedures or work instructions

Handles basic issues and problems

Basic Qualifications Must be currently enrolled majoring in Engineering Quality, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Chemical or similar Engineering or technical degree program and/or be within 6 months of graduation Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerpointExcellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work well with a diverse employee population are essentialMust demonstrate organizational and prioritization skills, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, using discretion and independent judgementResponds promptly to customer needsDemonstrates persistence and overcomes obstacles with a sense of urgencyWorks within the highest level of integrity and safetyRelies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals while performing a variety of complex tasksWorks under limited supervision
