Arrowhead Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Nasdaq: ARWR) is a clinical stage biopharmaceutical company that develops medicines that treat intractable diseases by silencing the genes that cause them. Using a broad portfolio of RNA chemistries and efficient modes of delivery, Arrowhead therapies trigger the RNA interference mechanism to induce rapid, deep, and durable knockdown of target genes. RNA interference, or RNAi, is a mechanism present in living cells that inhibits the expression of a specific gene, thereby affecting the production of a specific protein. Arrowhead’s RNAi-based therapeutics leverage this natural pathway of gene silencing.
Arrowhead is focused on developing innovative drugs for diseases with a genetic basis, typically characterized by the overproduction of one or more proteins that are involved with disease. The depth and versatility of our RNAi technologies enables us to potentially address conditions in virtually any therapeutic area and pursue disease targets that are not otherwise addressable by small molecules and biologics. Arrowhead is leading the field in bringing the promise of RNAi to address diseases outside of the liver, and our clinical pipeline includes disease targets in the liver and lung with a promising pipeline of preclinical candidates.
Arrowhead’s corporate headquarters is in Pasadena, CA with research and development teams in Madison, WI and San Diego, CA. Our employees are nimble, science-driven innovators who are collaborating to bring new therapies to patients in need.
The Position
Join our Research Informatics team as an intern and contribute to optimizing how research data is stored, accessed, and utilized across systems. This project focuses on enhancing data organization, standardization, and automation to improve efficiency and collaboration. You will help design structured metadata, integrate data workflows, and develop tools to ensure research information is easily findable, accessible, and reusable. Your contributions will support better data management practices, reduce time spent searching for information, and promote consistency across teams, ultimately accelerating innovation and discovery.
This is a 12 week Summer Internship Program paying $22.00/hr.
Responsibilities
Data Mapping & Assessment – Identify and categorize existing R&D data sources, assessing gaps in metadata, organization, and accessibility Metadata Schema Development – Develop and propose metadata standards to ensure consistent labeling and integration across Benchling and other repositories Prototyping Data Workflows – Design and implement scripts or automated workflows for data ingestion, tagging, and retrieval in alignment with FAIR data principles Documentation & User Training – Create clear guides and training materials, with potential opportunities to lead brief training sessions for users Proof-of-Concept Evaluations – Test and evaluate trial licenses of new tools and technologies, documenting findings and making recommendations for improving data management practicesRequirements:
Currently enrolled student at an Accredited University or College and majoring in Bioinformatics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field Basic understanding of FAIR data principles and their importance in research and data management Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python or R) for data manipulation and automation Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and standard data formats (CSV, JSON, etc.) Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively in a multidisciplinary teamPreferred:
Experience working with Benchling or other Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) Knowledge of database structures, including SQL or NoSQL systems Familiarity with metadata standards or data governance frameworks (e.g., BioSchemas, ISA-Tab) Experience creating dashboards or visualizations using tools like Benchling, Power BI, or Spotfire Proven ability to document processes and train end-users on new systems or workflows California pay range $10,560—$10,560 USDArrowhead provides competitive salaries and an excellent benefit package.
