Summer Intern - Collections Bureau

Bureau/Division Overview

The Collections Bureau is responsible for managing accounts receivable by collecting delinquent taxes and fostering voluntary compliance with the Commonwealth's tax laws.

Position Summary

Work closely with various areas of the Collections Bureau, Chelsea, MA., and learn what it is like to be a part of day-to-day operations. This individual will observe and participate in collection matters, accounts management work and lien processing.

Core Responsibilities

· Assisting Operations Unit with processing checks, returns, mail, liens and other work, as needed.

· Shadowing and assisting Desk, Field and Seizure Operations with collection enforcement, as needed.

· Shadowing and assisting with Collections Contact Center calls and duties, as needed.

· Shadowing reporting and process improvement staff.

Preferred Qualifications

· Must be customer-service oriented.

· Ability to communicate factual and procedural information clearly, orally and in writing.

· Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office and O365 products such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and VPN.

· Ability to work independently

· Excellent analytical skills are essential.

As part of the Future of Work Initiative, the agency has adopted a hybrid work model. Hybrid work is a mix of in-office work and telework. This position will work remotely some days and in-person on other days.

An external candidate recommended for a position with the Department of Revenue will be subject to a background check that includes checks for: state and federal tax compliance; child support compliance; education verification; Massachusetts CORI checks; criminal background checks in state(s) of current and previous residence/employment; validation of eligibility to work in the United States; and national fingerprint-based criminal background checks.
