Mount Hermon
Position Objectives:
The One on One Student Aide position is the assistant/primary caretaker for children and students 0-18 years old with cognitive, emotional, or physical special needs that greatly inhibit or prohibit them from participating in camp activities as well as enabling them to participate and experience camp as best suited for them, all in a manner consistent with Mount Hermon’s mission, vision, and values. In addition, when needed this position will have responsibilities to provide a consistent, stable, and supportive environment for children in the Child Care or Day Camp programs, assisting students ages birth to 12 years old.
General Qualifications:
The One on One Student Aide is a Ministerial position. Ministerial staff render their work, stewardship, relationships, and behavior as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming Mount Hermon’s mission, vision, and beliefs. They are responsible for defining, cultivating and leading Mount Hermon’s Christian community, conference programs, and retreats.
Key Job Accountabilities
Assist children with physical mobility. Care for basic hygienic needs. Help kids encounter God and others by partnering with department teams and leads in all aspects of discipleship; implementing curriculum. Support children with participation in group activities. Provide clear and open communication with parents regarding their child/children’s well-being, with special attention to health, safety and discipline. Share in the responsibilities of keeping camp areas, including workspaces and supplies, clean and orderly. Help provide a consistent, stable, safe, and supportive environment for the children in their care so that they may experience camp as best suited to the child’s abilities. Assist a child with special needs. This responsibility demands one on one assistance. In this case, the Aide will accompany only child with special needs throughout the session, helping them to join the group when possible, and offering alternative activities for that child when necessary with the support of the Special Needs Coordinator. Engage the students in custom activities when unable to participate with the rest of the group. Participate in bonus jobs with other departments on the mountain. Other duties assigned by Supervisor.
