The **Sunflower Breeding Support Specialist** will be working in an international team of breeders, agronomist and phenotyping specialists and supporting a comprehensive and technology-driven sunflower breeding program for the Continental region in Europe based in South-France, Toulouse area (Montech).
The position supports the local team in breeding activities, parental characterization, disease screening, experiment planning, seed logistics, and supervision of seasonal and temporary workers. It requires technical skills in breeding, molecular breeding and data management, but also a collaborative mindset, planning and organizational competencies are of strong interest.
In addition, strong communication skills are needed to collaborate with the Breeding Network in France and across Europe.
**What You´ll do** :
+ Support all breeding activities and assist the Sunflower Breeders in phenotypic, marker-assisted, and genomic selection.
+ Lead the parental line phenotyping and characterization at the research center
+ Coordinate disease screening in collaboration with the EU Sunflower Breeding Team and Pathologist
+ Lead the seasonal and temporary employees in day-to-day activities
+ Support experiment creation and seed preparation, handling, shipping and inventory activities aligned with the Europe regional seed logistics strategy
+ Ability to effectively work outdoors with periods of extensive field work will be required, including nursery field conditions during summer heat stress.
**Qualifications and Skills needed** :
+ Master’s degree in breeding, plant technology or related fields desired
+ Key competencies are a collaborative mindset and good time management
+ Focus on team building with excellent verbal and written communication skills
+ Self-motivated, curious and able to initiate projects
+ Excellent planning, organization and problem-solving skills
+ Ability to train/supervise temporary employees
+ Knowledge of plant breeding and genetics
+ Computer knowledge
+ Committed to safety
+ A valid driving license
+ Fluent in French, good communication skills in English
