Superintendent, Wanted!
Humboldt Sawmill Company, LLC (HSC) is looking for an experienced Superintendent to lead our Planer team in Scotia, CA! This position manages production requirements and various aspects of planning-mill, sawmill and/or dry kiln operations and employees in a safe and effective business manner.
The base salary for this position is $100,000.00 to $120,000.00. Your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic locations, skills, education and/or experience. Please keep in mind that that the range published is the full base salary. We also offer a generous benefits package.
The Mendocino Companies (Mendocino Forest Products Company, Mendocino Redwood Company, Humboldt Redwood Company, Humboldt Sawmill Company, and Allweather Wood) own nearly 450,000 acres of Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC® C031337) certificated redwood and Douglas-fir timberland, constitute the largest waterborne wood treater in the Western USA, and is the largest producer of redwood lumber in the world. Additionally, the Mendocino Companies own and operate a 25-megaWatt biomass cogeneration power plant and wood pellet plant.

Meets with management daily to review current issues, production goals, quality standards, and to obtain information to allow for the successful fulfillment of customer needs, both internal and externalRegularly reviews with employee’s production progression, quality goals, and to identify supply needsManages multiple activities by establishing priorities that provide for continuous process improvement and support of the facility’s business objectivesCoordinates production activities to obtain optimum utilization of human capital, machines, and equipment with full operational knowledgeMaintains a safe working environment in and around the manufacturing facilityRegularly works with Supervisors to ensure activities support operational needs and activitiesCoordinates with other departments to manage the lumber yard, to be efficient, clean and organizedWorks with Sawmill Operations Manager to establish short- and long-term objective and plans for completion of approved goalsDevelops in concert with Sawmill Operations Manager budget annually, and works to attain budgetary plansCoaches employees for attainment of personal and professional objectivesDevelops, maintains, and distributes management, and production reports as requiredDirectly and indirectly supervises team leaders, and hourly production and laborer employees at the sawmill facilityCoaches employees for attainment of Company and individual goals and objectives in accordance with Company guidelines, and performance management system Supervisory responsibilities include but are not limited to interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problemsQualifications Minimum of ten years related sawmill or industry related experienceWWPA Master Lumberman certification preferredAbility to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manualsAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the publicKnowledge of Database software; Manufacturing software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing softwareMust maintain a valid California driver license and remain eligible and capable of operating company vehicles in accordance with company policy guidelines. Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit, stand; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, couch or crawlThe employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. May spend up to 75% of time reviewing operations inside the millWhile performing the duties of this position, the employee will split his/her time between a typical mill office environment and the mill floor The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles while on the mill floor. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, toxic or caustic chemicalsThe noise level in the office environment is usually moderate while the noise level in the mill dictates the necessity for hearing protection when working on the mill floorSpecific vision abilities required by this position include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and ability to adjust focus and communicateThis position frequently requires eye protection, hearing protection, leather or rubber gloves, safety vest, safety shoes, hard hat and fall protection as required
