Job Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager, the Superintendent is r esponsible for coordinating all site construction activities and supervising all subcontract personnel, from project start through final acceptance by client. They will resolve construction issues, interface with the Project Manager, oversee project field team members, including subcontractors and vendors, and administer all activities related to work planning and project scheduling. Directly responsible for timeliness and quality of the work and implementation and monitoring of corporate safety policy.

Education:
· Bachelor’s Degree Construction Management, Construction Engineering Management, Civil or Mechanical Engineering, or related field experience
· Education requirement can be waived with applicable experience in Heavy Civil Construction, in the superintendent role
· Valid drivers license
Experience:
· 2+ years’ experience in heavy civil construction as a Project or General Superintendent

· Proven ability to lead and mentor team members
· Effective written and verbal communication skills
· Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
· Advanced knowledge of construction scheduling, cost control, and ability to control and supervise large teams
· Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work independently as well as in team environments, often under tight deadline situations, in a dynamic fast paced work environment
Responsibilities:
· Lead and manage all on-site work planning activities.
· Leads Ballard’s safety culture on all the projects.
· Develop and maintain strong relationships with Ballard’s clients, internal and external.
· Responsible for overseeing the work of field engineers, project engineers, general foreman and junior superintendents.
· Direct and coordinate activities of project personnel to ensure project progresses safely, on schedule and within prescribed budget.
· Overall management and coordination of all construction activities on project site. Direct and coordinates activities of project personnel, subcontractors, consultants, and vendors to ensure project progresses safely, on schedule and within budget.
· Change order recognition and management.
· Review and oversight of daily reporting requirements ensuring through, and quality reports are submitted.
· Work with project team on the project cost forecasting.
· Direct and coordinates activities of project personnel, subcontractors, consultants, and vendors to ensure project progresses safely, on schedule and within budget.
· Work with and be part of the estimating departments during project procurement phases.
· Perform Quality Control duties as required.
· Local travel required. Local travel is defined as any travel required to complete projects within the region where you are working.
· Occasional National travel required, national trips will typically be for 2-5-day durations, occurring up to 6 times per year.
Physical Demands / Working Environment:
· Prolonged periods sitting at a desk working on a computer.
· Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at a time.
· Ability to remain outdoors for long periods of time in various seasons and conditions.
· Climb ladders, work at heights, walk and stand on uneven surfaces, ride or work from a barge, pier, vessel, etc.
· Ability to sit, stand, kneel, squat, push, pull, etc. for varying amounts of time.
