Supervising Bridge Engineer – California High Speed Rail – Fresno, California - Hybrid in Fresno every other week.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Looking for a role where your structural engineering design experience will make an immediate impact on construction? The CA High Speed Rail – CP1 Project is a large-scale design-build project in Fresno, CA with on-going design and construction work. We are seeking to hire a full-time Supervising Structural/Bridge Engineer that will support the Engineering Services During Construction (ESDC) effort for our Fresno, CA office. This role is ideal for a structural engineer that wants to work with the construction team as they build the project. Daily tasks will allow construction to proceed, resolve field issues, and coordinate with design team. This role supports projects primarily for our Fresno, California office, but can be hybrid - based anywhere in California or US West region. Travel to the Fresno office every other week will be required. All travel costs and related expenses are covered.Responsibilities:
Reviews work produced to ensure that applicable codes, standards, and procedures are followed, and quality is acceptable.Monitors productivity and technical proficiency of assigned personnel. Makes staffing assignments and reassignments as project needs arise.Helps to define discipline design participation on the project, including scope of work, design criteria, schedules, standards, and procedures.Determines staffing requirements for the defined scope and schedule.Supervises the production of project drawings and design calculations.Promotes technical excellence on the project, including furthering the Quality Improvement Process.Ensures that discipline design work is coordinated with project staff and Engineers from other disciplines by maintaining clear and frequent communications.Advises engineering and project management regarding any problem areas, staffing requirements, delays in production, scope changes, or other events which could affect project completion and/or profitability.Prepares engineering computations, material quantity takeoffs, estimates, surveys, and designs.Frequently interfaces with other Engineering disciplines as well as construction team.Prepares and issues specifications, data sheets, and other construction documents.Review supplier product drawing submittals and construction shop drawings.Review construction submittals and process through ESDC processEngineer solutions to resolve Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) for field issuesCoordinate with design engineer-of-record regarding field Request for Information (RFI) responsesPerforms complex engineering tasks and particularly important engineering work efficiently and accurately.Reviews change order requests for additions, deletions, or changes to the original scope of work.Ensures that adequate checking is performed in accordance with discipline checking policy and procedures.Recommends design methods, equipment use, etc., for discipline standards.Maintains affiliation with professional societies to keep abreast of current technologies.Recommends and prepares technical papers.Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with structural emphasisMaster’s Degree in Structural Engineering is highly preferred15 years or more of related work experience with bridge design projects for road & highway and/or rail infrastructureCalifornia Professional Engineering (PE) license is required. Structural Engineering (SE) license is preferred or highly desirableFamiliarity with Caltrans standard plans, Caltrans bridge design manual and memo to designers is preferred, but any state experience is acceptableKnowledge of reinforced concrete design, prestressed and post tensioned concrete design, and advanced steel design highly preferredKnowledge of deep foundations design, repair and analysis for CIDH piles and drilled shaftsPractical knowledge of reinforcement detailing and rebar shop drawings reviewPractical knowledge of post tensioning system shop drawings and interpretation of field elongation measurements according to Caltrans SpecificationsKnowledge of concrete mix design per ACI and AASHTOProven ability to perform in a supervisory capacityExcellent written and oral communications skillsThorough knowledge of industry practices and regulations are requiredMust also possess a thorough knowledge of current technology and be able to select and apply appropriate engineering software for use on projectMinimum Clearance Required to Start:
