Summary

Ensures accurate claims submissions for all payers within area of oversight. Fully understands and complies with all collections policies as set forth by accounts receivable. Has familiarity with data processing capabilities and procedures.

Job Description

Reads and understands Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) to ensure accurate claims and calculate patient financial responsibility based on insurance benefits. Maintains comprehensive understanding of insurance plans that fall within scope of responsibility, including all billing regulations and updates. Participates in meetings with payers within area of responsibility. Complies with regulatory agency requirements. Collaborates with system entities and serves as a resource.

Leads with a positive and supporting attitude as well as leading by example. Delegates assigned task to employees based on skill level and experience. Serves as a resource for employees. Ensures staff compliance with regulatory agency requirements. Assists with interviewing, hiring, orienting, counseling, disciplining and, if necessary, termination of employees. Conducts performance reviews.

Must be self-directed, self-motivated and be able to adapt to change. Must be able to utilize all office equipment including personal computer and application software, printer, Fax, copier, multiline telephone system. Ability to use appropriate reference materials. Must be able to manage multiple, competing priorities.

Must possess problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Must have effective communication skills, both written and oral, to articulate employee and patient concerns. Collaborates and communicates effectively with other department supervisors and management. Tact and courtesy in dealing with patients with the ability to maintain control of situation. Must understand and demonstrate leadership capability, handle conflict and negotiation. Must be self-directed with a high level of accountability and minimal supervision.

Supervises staff in different physical locations. Occasional overnight travel required.

Qualifications

High school diploma or high school equivalency required; Associate’s degree in a health care or business related field preferred.

Three years' previous billing or comparable experience required. Previous experience in a supervisory role preferred.
