Supervisor, Property Accounting

The responsibilities include the coordination of monthly close and communicating with customers inside and outside of the close process.  Provide day to day direction of Staff Accountants’ work in conjunction with Plant Accounting Managers by answering questions and providing backup/support to other team members as needed.  Review the monthly Plant financial statements/reports and ensure they are delivered to management timely, accurate and GAAP compliant, which includes review of the journal entries and account reconciliations of the Staff Accountants.  Assist with Regulatory data requests and reporting requirements.  Assist with preparation or review of internal and external auditors with information required to perform annual and quarterly audits.  Assist with preparation or review of quarterly and year-end financial schedules required for our SEC filings.  This role must work well with strict deadlines.  This role will manage direct reports.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Fundamentally strong in accounting and knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
• Lead team of employees in the plant accounting department to accomplish departmental goals and successfully complete projects by defining roles and responsibilities, effectively communicating those to the staff and holding self and others accountable for results.  Ensure the capital expenditures of the Company are properly accounted for and accurately reported on.
• Develop strategic departmental goals and individual goals with the department’s employees that align with the Company’s vision and objectives.  Focus on continuous development, training, and performance, while providing regular coaching and feedback.
• Review various transactional processes and module interfaces for asset additions, retirements, transfers and adjustments.
• Analyze and review month-end close activities for compliance with U.S. GAAP, discrepancies, coding errors and other issues that should be researched and resolved or brought to management’s attention.  Month-end close activities include reviewing the preparation and posting of journal entries relating to leases, fixed assets and depreciation.
• Evaluate and review balance sheet account reconciliations and monthly roll forward schedules to ensure they are complete, accurate, and fully supported by appropriate evidence in compliance with U.S. GAAP and other accounting regulations.  Ensure outstanding items/issues are researched and resolved in a timely manner.
• Use professional judgement and expertise to review complex estimates and calculations.
• Assist internal customers with recommendations on recording transactions and explain the impact to the general ledger and financial statements.
• Develop testing of system implementations in area of responsibility.
• Review standard and non-standard reports and analyses. Collaborate with other members of the plant accounting team, other departments, or external auditors to ensure deliverables are completed timely, accurately and deadlines are met.
• Support regulatory activity including FERC and/or Form 21 reporting, depreciation studies and rate cases.  Research and respond to data requests by regulatory agencies.
• Promote innovation and implement efficiencies to improve processes in a dynamic workflow environment.
• Apply the Company’s written policies and procedures and serve as a point of contact for questions related to capital vs. expense, budget, systems, regulatory or other plant accounting matters.
• Prioritize and complete other duties and responsibilities, in a timely basis, as assigned.

Education and Experience:
Required:
• BA/BS degree in Accounting and/or Finance
• 10+ years experience performing accounting activities

•MS Excel - intermediate proficiency

•Knowledge of the utility industry and the FERC System of Accounts
•Prior supervisory skills
•Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or currently pursuing
