**SUPERVISOR, SUBSTATION ENGINEERING (Hybrid - La Crosse, WI)**
**_Hiring Salary Range: $114,900.00 - $172,400.00_**

The Supervisor, Substation Engineering is responsible for managing and coordinating the activities of the Electrical Engineering and Substation Services departments in a safe manner. Oversee engineering studies, the specification, and acquisition of all electrical power and physical equipment related to distribution and transmission substations. Interact with distribution cooperatives, regulatory and governing agencies, and suppliers regarding engineering, electrical equipment and physical equipment.
**The Impact You'll Make In This Role:**
**ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS** **:**
1. Manage activities of Electrical Engineering and Substation Services staff to ensure timely and effective engineering/design of transmission and distribution substation projects. Activities included but not limited to:
+ Electrical Design
+ Equipment Specifications and Acquisition
+ Protective Relaying
+ Substation Control
+ Metering
+ Associated Drawings and Records
+ Engineering studies
+ Substation physical/steel design
+ Substation Civil design
+ Departmental Design Standards
2. Establish departmental goals/objectives and review performance/progress. Ensure department maintains appropriate understanding of present technology and engineering methods as well as new and upcoming technology and engineering methods.
3. Responsible for selecting, directing, coaching, assessing staffing levels and managing staff in a manner that assures maximum productivity and development of all department personnel with appropriate consideration given to safety and training of employees.
4. Responsible for cost center budgets, capital project review information and applicable portions of the construction budget, including prioritization of projects based on projects identified by the Planning Department and other departments. Responsible for identification and justification of Electrical Engineering and Substation Services recommended projects based on condition assessments of equipment.
5. Oversee and direct the preparation of specifications and the evaluation of proposals/bids for all equipment and services within the departments.
6. Ensure all design and construction/material standards meet the requirements of all applicable Federal, State, local, RUS, IEEE, ANSI, NESC and all other industry standards.
7. Provide technical assistance to other Dairyland departments in the resolution of problems, answering questions and providing information relating to metering, protective relaying, substation controls, substation equipment, capacitor banks, grounding, civil design, structural design and other engineering related items. Assist external cooperative members and municipal members with technical questions and provide information as necessary.
8. Responsible for the evaluation and information within the organizations enterprise asset management system relating to metering, protective relaying, substation equipment, capacitor banks, grounding, civil equipment, structural equipment and other electrical related items.
9. Ensure Dairyland’s interests on various technical committees, taskforces and organizations is properly represented.
10. Responsible for compliance of NERC reliability standards related to protection systems, engineering and protection system maintenance.
11. Perform other duties assigned.
**Your Experience and Expertise:**
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS** **:**
**Education & Experience** **:** Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems emphasis preferred) or similar field of engineering with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the electric utility industry. Equivalent combination of experience and education will be considered. Professional Engineering license preferred.
**Skills** **:**
+ Computer Skills required include proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, CAPE and other engineering tools.
+ Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively with individuals at varying levels of leadership within the organization and parties external to the organization.
+ Strong organizational and time management skills with proven ability to multi-task and manage complex projects.
+ A thorough understanding of safe substation engineering and construction practices and techniques.

**Environmental Demands** **:** Work indoors with occasional outdoor work at substations, in power line rights-of-way, and power plants. Outdoor work will occur in various weather conditions and near electrical hazards. Must be able to traverse uneven terrain.
