ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises tool room technicians, assigning daily work assignments.
Conduct FAT, IQ, OQ and PQ qualifications for molds and/or equipment. Document results with detailed technical reports.
Provides technical assistance and expertise to manufacturing in problematic situations, implementing corrective action and provide training.
Establish and maintain manufacturing specifications, i.e., BOM, routings, set up sheets and other related technical recommendations and documentation.
Work with and lead projects with Set-up Technicians.
Work with Process, Quality and Manufacturing Departments to debug and validate molds maintaining optimized process.
Identify and implement Continuous Improvement projects and/or general improvement projects. Maintain Open Issues matrix.
Machines needed parts by from blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals specifications, sample parts, or by receiving verbal instruction to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work, sequence of operation and setup requirements. Performs work activities based on work orders.
Machines dies using the Computer Numerical Control (CNC). This includes accurately setting up the part or material in the fixtures and running the accurate program
Designs and writes CNC programs to fabricate production equipment.
Trains employees as needed.
Prepares tooling shipments for delivery to production and other foreign facilities.
Prepare blanks to produce dies & wedges .
Maintains adequate supply of blanks for dies & wedges.
Machines new dies & wedges as needed.
Inspect all re-coated wedges for coating quality.
Ensures shop schedules are met by distributing work to other tooling shop personnel.
Adjust work schedule as necessary to meet production demands.
Maintains inventory of perishables and other supplies, such as end mills, drills, inserts, die cases, wedge cases, machines oils, coolants, etc.
Maintains and services all machine tools and equipment in the tooling shop.
Maintains logs and data regarding all tooling activities performed.
Ensures all machining chips, scrap metal or equipment and coolants are disposed of properly.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent, plus at least 6 years of machine shop experience which includes CAD, or equivalent – OR- Apprenticeship Program, or certification from technical school, and 4 years of proven experiene in tool and die. Must have a minimum of 3 years of supervisor experience.
