Lihir Operation is a tier-one open cut mining operation based on Aniolam island, in the Lihir Group of Islands, located in New Ireland Province approximately 800km north of Port Moresby. It is one of the world’s largest producing gold mines and is located on a geothermally active extinct volcanic crater. Production first commenced in 1997. The operation consists of an open pit mine producing refractory ore, which is treated using pressure oxidation before the gold is recovered by a conventional leach process.

Purpose

 

Our Lihir Mine Marine Operations team efficiently and safely operates multiple split hopper barges to transport waste to offshore dumps, supporting the mining operations team. We are seeking a Supervisor Barges to oversee barging and dredging operations, including managing breakdown recovery to maximise the availability of wharves and barges in a safe and cost-effective manner.

Training & Experience

 

PNG Driver's License - Class 6 essentialMinimum of Grade 10 CertificateMinimum NMSA Mate Class Three (3) or Engineer Class 3 Certificate of Competency essentialMinimum Three (3) years seatime serving as Chief officer or Chief Engineer on vessels essentialPrevious experience in Supervision/contract management in marine/shipping operations desiredExcellent verbal, written & communication skillsComputer proficiency in MS Excel and Office suite requiredSound task planning skillsSelf-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomouslyExcellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlinesStrong active listening & interpersonal skills for working together as teamBe able to work a FIFO rosterAbility to complete a pre-employment medical assessment Must be able to complete a National Police Check & Risk Rate ScreeningMust have ALL valid NMSA Certificate of Competency and SOLAS certificationMust have workable knowledge of SOLAS and MARPOL regulations as well as local PNG Merchant Shipping Act/NMSA Safety RegulationsWorking Conditions

 

This role is offered on a 28/14 Fly in, Fly out (FIFO) roster from multiple locations in PNG to Lihir island.

A variety of healthy meal options are catered at our mess; and the wet mess provides a relaxed social setting where employees can unwind with a game of pool or darts.
