Lihir Operation is a tier-one open cut mining operation based on Aniolam island, in the Lihir Group of Islands, located in New Ireland Province approximately 800km north of Port Moresby. It is one of the world’s largest producing gold mines and is located on a geothermally active extinct volcanic crater. Production first commenced in 1997. The operation consists of an open pit mine producing refractory ore, which is treated using pressure oxidation before the gold is recovered by a conventional leach process.

Purpose

 

Our Lihir Mine Marine Operations team efficiently and safely operates multiple split hopper barges to transport waste to offshore dumps, supporting the mining operations team. We are seeking a Supervisor Barges to oversee barging and dredging operations, including managing breakdown recovery to maximise the availability of wharves and barges in a safe and cost-effective manner.

Training & Experience

This role is offered on a 28/14 Fly in, Fly out (FIFO) roster from multiple locations in PNG to Lihir island.

 

Our FIFO employees stay in secure and comfortable camp in an en-suited and airconditioned room equipped with mini fridge, TV and Wi-Fi. A variety of healthy meal options are catered at our mess; and the wet mess provides a relaxed social setting where employees can unwind with a game of pool or darts.
