The New Porgera Limited now has a vacancy for a qualified and experienced individual as SUPERVISOR – BELT SPLICER – RUBBER SHOP (TBA)
About the role
Reporting to the Foreman – Concentrator and Autoclave, is responsible for overseeing and managing the belt splicing operations within a mining, industrial, or manufacturing environment. This role involves coordinating and supervising a team of belt splicers, ensuring the safe and efficient installation, repair, and maintenance of conveyor belts. The Supervisor – Belt Splicer plays a critical role in optimizing production processes, ensuring equipment reliability, and promoting a culture of safety and quality.
In this role, you will:
Provide leadership and direction to a team of belt splicers, ensuring they adhere to safety protocols, quality standards, and operational guidelines. Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide feedback, and offer training and support for skill development. Oversee the installation, repair, and maintenance of conveyor belts using various splicing techniques, such as hot vulcanization, cold vulcanization, and mechanical fastening. Ensure the proper selection of splicing materials and tools, considering factors such as belt type, load capacity, and operating conditions. Enforce and promote strict adherence to safety regulations, standards, and protocols related to belt splicing operations. Conduct safety inspections, risk assessments, and incident investigations to maintain a safe working environment. Plan and schedule belt splicing operations to minimize downtime and optimize production processes. Maintain a high level of health and safety awareness and comply with the NPL Occupational Health & Safety Policy and all health and safety rules and procedures
About You
To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experiences:
Grade 10 certificate or equivalent; Technical or vocational training in conveyor belt splicing is preferred. Proven experience as a belt splicer with a deep understanding of various conveyor belt types and splicing techniques. Previous supervisory or leadership experience in belt splicing or a related field. Strong knowledge of safety regulations, industry standards, and best practices in belt splicing operations. Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills. Ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, and work effectively under pressure. Good computer skills with the ability to use integrated management systems / workflow management systems (e.g. Oracle, JDE, SAP, etc.)
Mobilization Requirement
This is a PNG National staff position, a site-based role on a Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) arrangement with rotation of 21 days on Site and 14 days off Site. Must successfully pass a pre-employment medical including drug and alcohol screening. (This will be arranged only for successful candidates who progress after the interview stage) and have an up-to-date Police Clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months).
