Responsibilities
Responsible for the management and development of staff. Provides oversight to, and is accountable for quality and service, regulatory compliance, work unit safety, strategic planning, document management, financial management and developing and implementing new services. Works cooperatively with a wide variety of customers, as well as internal and external resources. Completes special projects as assigned by the laboratory consultant/director(s), administrator and/or operations manager(s).

This Supervisor position will oversee, in particular, the Nucleic Acid Extraction area. Expectations are to work with staff and Technical Specialists executing study driven and project work. Devising and utilizing appropriate strategies to prioritize and effectively meet customer needs and expectations. Work with downstream laboratories and vendors to properly execute timelines while also balancing budgetary and supply chain constraints. This individual will be working with other supervisors and work areas, executing proper workflows to ensure appropriate structure and uniformity is a key to the success of this work unit.
The Biorepository Program includes both the Biospecimen Accessioning and Processing (BAP) Core and Pathology Research Core (PRC) laboratories in MN. The MN Biorepository Program cores provide exceptional biorepositories and biospecimen processing and storage using the highest precision and latest technology, as well as histology-related services.
The cores' range of services includes:
· Support for setting up study-specific infrastructures needed for biospecimen collection, processing and routing.
· Accessioning and processing.
· Nucleic acid extraction, plating and peripheral blood mononuclear cell isolation and cryopreservation.
· Storage, shipping and sample collection kit assembly.
· Histology-related services including: immunohistochemistry, tissue microarray construction, digital imaging and laser capture microdissection
The Biorepository cores are highly automated and highly scalable for virtually all of these processes. Automation includes sample sorters, robotic liquid handlers for blood processing and aliquoting (including plasma, serum, urine, buffy coat and red blood cells), nucleic acid extractions (DNA and RNA), aliquoting and plating, and sample storage. The BAP core also provides a range of storage solutions, including conventional freezers with a temperature of -80 degrees Celsius, liquid nitrogen freezers and robotically controlled high-capacity freezers that are maintained at -80 degrees Celsius. Together, the BAP and PRC cores provide a broad array of high-quality pre-analytic services across Mayo Clinic's campuses in Arizona, Florida and Minnesota. Electronic biospecimen accessioning and tracking, combined with a broad range of specimen processing services, have created a powerful and synergistic resource that supports the translational, epidemiologic and basic research programs of investigators at both Mayo Clinic and external institutions.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in clinical laboratory science (CLS), medical laboratory science (MLS), or medical technology (MT) and six years of clinical laboratory experience after obtaining the qualified bachelors degree. OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in addition to a certificate in medical laboratory science (MLS) or another clinical laboratory specialty certificate, and six years of clinical laboratory experience after obtaining the qualified bachelors degree. Certificates will be reviewed and approved on a case by case basis.
OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in chemistry or biological science and seven years of clinical laboratory experience after obtaining the qualified bachelors degree.
OR Master's degree from an accredited institution in chemical, physical, biological. clinical laboratory science or medical technology and four years of clinical laboratory experience after obtaining the qualified bachelors degrees listed above. In the non-testing laboratories (Laboratory Services, Central Processing, Microbiology Initial Processing, Preparation and Processing, Autotransfusion, IMPACT, Hematopathology Support Lab, Operational Support Unit, MML Operations, and Donor Services) and Histopathology laboratories: Bachelor's degree, preferably in CLS/MLS/MT, management/business, sciences or a health-related field and four years of laboratory or management experience.Must have demonstrated leadership, communication (oral and written) and problem solving ability. Must be highly organized, efficient, and able to work independently. Requires human relations skills to influence and motivate others.ASCP certification or other certification pertinent to the laboratory field may be required depending on the laboratory specialty.
