Our EVS Supervisor supervises a key area within the Environmental Services (EVS) department, ensuring consistently high standards of environmental hygiene and aesthetics for patients, visitors, and staff. The role is also responsible for the daily oversight of regulatory standards, financial stewardship of department operations, and fostering collaboration with other management and supervisory team members to support the department’s daily functions.

Position Responsibilities:

Supervision & Staffing: Oversees necessary resources for the Environmental Services (EVS) department, making recommendations for hiring and promotions. Completes annual performance reviews for direct reports. Waste Management: Supervises a waste program ensuring proper separation, packaging, and disposal of waste in accordance with all regulations. Quality Improvement: Implements quality improvement initiatives under the direction of the EVS director or manager. Conducts rounding activities to ensure environmental hygiene in assigned areas and prepares necessary reporting. Bed Tracking & Response Times: Manages the bed tracking system, ensuring EVS response and clean times are met. Prepares reports, collaborating with the EVS director or manager to develop improvement plans. Cleaning & Disinfection Knowledge: Demonstrates a strong understanding of cleaning and disinfection principles, proper chemical and equipment usage, and labor requirements for furniture, furnishings, and interior maintenance. Inventory & Supply Management: Oversees inventory, usage data, and the ordering of consumable supplies and equipment repairs. Scheduling & Coordination: Prepares master work and time schedules, coordinating vacation and holiday time, and reviewing daily adjustments in the work schedule. Subcontractor Oversight: Supervises subcontractors and/or EVS suppliers as necessary. Safety & Compliance: Adheres to safety, risk management, infection control, and prevention standards. Promotes patient safety through education and observation. Training & Coaching: Coaches team members on the chain of infection and the principles of infectious pathogen transmission. Provides required training for Level I, II, and Lead technicians. Emergency Response & Prioritization: Responds to emergency calls and manages multiple priorities to minimize disruption and coordinate staffing changes. Customer Service & Public Relations: Conducts patient and colleague interviews to evaluate service levels, contributing to the improvement of patient experience, cleanliness scores, and key departmental metrics. Budget Management: Controls expenditures within the approved budget and takes corrective actions when variances affect the budget. Staff Coaching & Corrective Action: Works with Colleague Relations, alongside the EVS director or manager, on staff coaching and corrective actions. Hands-On Tasks: As needed, performs tasks of Level I and II technicians. Required Experience

Education:

High School Diploma (or equivalent) required. Associate’s Degree preferred.

Licensure/Certification/Registry:

Valid Illinois driver’s license required. The incumbent must be deemed an acceptable driver in accordance with the MHS Fleet Safety Policy. A five-year Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check will be required. Certified Health Care Environmental Services Technician (CHEST) and/or Certified Surgical Cleaning Technician (CSCT) certifications, or trainer designation, preferred.

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Must be able to work on their feet for an eight-hour shift, move and/or operate heavy equipment and furniture, and lift a minimum of 50 lbs. Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with team members and management at all levels. Strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite, MS Project, PM software, and EVS software systems preferred. Springfield, IL
