Supervisor Financial Advocate
The Financial Advocate Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of all staff in the Financial Advocates Department ensuring smooth day to day operations while also working in the advocate role. This department performs daily activities related to the enrollment of Medicaid and health insurance, including Medicaid for chronic care, eligibility and self-pay services within the Patient Access Department. Activities include patient interviews before, during and after services are performed, which may also take place in the patient room. It is expected that the incumbent of this position will aggressively pursue third party reimbursement from other governmental programs on behalf of patients. This position will require proficiency with the use of internal Hospital Information Systems, insurance eligibility and verification, and external systems. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Education: Associate degree preferred. High School Diploma, or equivalent, is required. Experience: Three year minimum five years preferred of experience in healthcare systems and services. Experience with Medicaid eligibility and government programs required. Good verbal, written skills required along with customer service experience. RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION: + Supervision and training of Financial Advocated Staff including quality monitoring of staff work, scheduling of work duties including projects and monitoring the patient self-pay list for potential assistance applications. + Successfully performs registration interview to secure all required demographic information. + Aggressive completion of Medicaid and Financial Assistance applications is required. Must secure necessary signatures and update all systems, as necessary. + Provides accurate estimates to patients regarding out-of-pocket responsibility and assess what programs are available to the patient for assistance as appropriate. + Maintains a schedule of patient appointments for the department for both patients who are in hospital and for outpatients. These appointments are for the purpose of discussion patient financial responsibility and assisting in the application process for assistance as appropriate + Maintains staffing schedule to assure that the office is staffed during posted business hours. + Ensures initial payment has been secured by working with Financial Counselors and Cashier for scheduled services + Performs ongoing discovery and familiarity with all governmental programs and assistance offered for coverage of hospital bills (i.e. Crime Victims, ADAP, Prenatal Care, Undocumented Immigrants, etc.); this includes a thorough understanding of alternative sponsorship programs and how to prioritize work approach and program applications. + Ensures department consistently meets initial outreach deadlines (Inpatient – prior to discharge; Scheduled High-Dollar Outpatients – 3 days prior to service). + Discuss patient and staff related issues only in a confidential manner and setting, and only with those who have the right to know. + Maintains an objective and impartial perspective based on facts and not personal influences. + Must be able to execute multi-variable math. + Informs patients of rights and responsibilities in addition to meeting all regulatory guidelines. + Maintains current knowledge skills necessary to perform competently. + Work independently and has the ability to request assistance, when needed. + Work must be accurate and thorough; attention to details must be evident. + Adheres to hospital human resource policies and procedures related to mandatory education and annual health assessment(s). + Willingly accepts other duties as assigned. Salary Range: $20.21-29.31 /hour Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
