Medical Center: UH: Clinical Lab- (Full-Time, Day Shift) -
Job Summary: The Supervisor-Lab Technical provides technical leadership and serves as a resource to production for resolving technical issues and attaining specialty and/or departmental goals. Seeks to improve and enhance Laboratory and LIS Systems functionality through efficient use of resources, open communication with users regarding needs and systems uses, and reduction in the number and/or complexity of user tasks. Selects, calibrates, validates, implements, maintains, and troubleshoots methods and equipment using technical knowledge, discretion, and judgment. Oversees, coordinates, and participates in the training of laboratory staff, students, residents, and others as appropriate including preparation of instructional materials. Performs tests and reports results following standard operating procedures for patient specimens, proficiency samples, and quality control. Prepares and maintains documents and records, including laboratory information system (LIS). These services may be provided for both the LLUMC and LLUCH hospitals. Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Laboratory Science required. Master's Degree preferred. For such specialty (e.g., chemistry, immunology, microbiology, and hematology), a minimum of four years of experience in high complexity laboratory with a Bachelor's Degree in Laboratory Science or minimum of two years of experience in high complexity laboratory with a Master's Degree in Laboratory Science required. Minimum of two years of experience in quality system implementation preferred. Minimum of one year of prior supervisory experience preferred.
Knowledge and Skills: Able to read; write and speak with professional quality; use computer and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Power Point, Access; operate/troubleshoot basic office equipment required for the position. Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; provide leadership; be assertive and consistent in enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction. Able to distinguish colors as necessary; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace; see adequately to read computer screens, and written documents necessary to the position.
Licensures and Certifications: California Clinical Scientist (CLS) required. CLS (NCA) or MT(ASCP) preferred. Specialty certification preferred. American Society for Quality (ASQ) or similar quality certification preferred.
