Supervisor-Nursing*

Job Summary: The Supervisor�Nursing is an instrumental part of the patient care leadership and delivery team and represents Administration and Patient Care Services outside normal business hours (evening, night, weekend, and holiday shifts) for making clinical and administrative decisions and for interpreting and applying patient care policies and practices.  Provides overall supervision of nursing department operations and patient care services as needed. Responds to all patient emergency situations including code blue, rapid response, internal and external disasters and provides hands on care as necessary. Achieves and maintains credibility with colleagues, administration, and the multidisciplinary healthcare team and coordinates clinical nursing activities and efficient utilization of resources. Collaborates with Central Staffing, Transfer Center, Patient Placement, and Emergency Department to ensure efficient patient care and patient flow. Makes and implements decisions based on house-wide information, patient specific needs, and available resources. Demonstrates a commitment to excellence and the exceeding of customer expectations by modeling leadership behavior in the context of institutional values, empowerment, alignment, creativity, and education. These services may be provided for both LLUMC and LLUCH hospitals. Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience: Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing required. Master's Degree in Nursing preferred.  Minimum three years of acute care nursing experience which has provided opportunity to demonstrate competencies in leadership, clinical nursing, and/or administration required.

Knowledge and Skills: Ability to multitask and make critical decision in highly stressful situations. Must be able to make sound, independent judgments based on scientific and/or ethical principles. Basic knowledge of healthcare regulations and accreditation required. Demonstrates competencies in clinical nursing, leadership, supervision, management and communications skills required. Skillfully adapt to a fast-paced and changing environment. Able to read and write legibly in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, electronic medical record, electronic event reporting program; relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math and statistical functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place/patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.

Licensures and Certifications: Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license required. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
