Job Summary

Supervises and directs patient accounting functions for LMC, LMC Lexington, and LMC Irmo. Ensures compliance with all federal and state regulations. Coordinates implementation of software applications specific to the business office areas. Provides technical support and training for staff. Analyze credit balance reports and coordinates with Insurance Companies for efficient recovery processes. Determines negotiated contractual rates to insure they are in compliance with our contracts. Responsible for the Research Department which handles credit balances, refunds, return checks, Client Receivables, and Government Logs.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Minimum Years of Experience: None.

Required Certifications/Licensure: None.
Required Training: Demonstrates ability to supervise personnel and communicate well in an organizational setting;
Technical knowledge of PC, software applications and installation, experience with on-line and network computer systems;
Knowledge of patient accounting and basic knowledge of accounting practices;
Familiar with medical terminology, billing form documents, ICD-9 coding, CPT and UB04, HIC1500 procedure requirements, remittance advice and medical record documents;
Familiar with admission document, MSP, EOBs, RA adjustments letters, Medicare/Medicaid documents;
Familiar with Medicare/Medicaid and Third Party billing, reimbursement and regulatory compliance;
Familiar with insurance process and documents associated (e.g. authorization forms, EOBs, etc.

Essential Functions Trains and orients new employees to departmental policies and procedures. Assists in interviewing, hiring, upgrading existing employees, evaluating and counseling employees on work performance and attendance, recommends merit increases, promotions, transfers and terminations. Displays a thorough understanding of registration and cashiering procedures. Ensures that registration functions are completed in a timely, accurate, professional and confidential manner. Utilizes experience and problem solving skills to formulate recommendations for operational improvements. Ensures proper training of employees. Maintains employee files to include: documentation of training, counseling, commendations, feedback reports, anecdotals. Establishes a quarterly departmental meeting. Manages employees’ hours.  Have a thorough understanding of employees hours to ensure that adequate staffing levels are planned at all times. Establishes, maintains and trains patient access employees to follow downtime procedures. Complete Annual Performance Evaluations and review Annual Performance Evaluation with employee. Maintain Payroll records and submit to Accounting in a timely manner. Establish attendance standards based on hospital and departmental policies. Duties & Responsibilities Assures that all staff follow established collection policies and procedures. Responsible for Reconciling Cash Drawer Closings for assigned staff. Responsible for Monitoring Cash Drawer Closings daily. Responsible for Monthly Cash Drawer Audits. Communication: Assures that all interactions with patients, physicians, staff, management and visitors are conducted in a courteous, professional manner. Responds to Feedback Reports as appropriate. Maintains communication with various departments to promote patient satisfaction. Demonstrates excellent patient specific communication skills and responds to customer/patients needs as appropriate. Keep Patient Access Manager apprised of situations that might require her input or recommendation. Communicates progress and results of periodic audits through submission of reports to Patient Access Manager. Maintain training hours standard. Performs all other duties as assigned.
