Position Purpose
Under the direction of the Manager of Surgical Services, the incumbent coordinates the daily activities of the Surgical Technologist staff and is responsible for their needed equipment and supplies to provide efficient, high quality care.
Nature and Scope
Maintenance of adequate staff is this positions responsibility, including hiring new staff members, evaluating and counseling existing staff members, scheduling work hours and days, and termination of staff members when appropriate.
The incumbent develops staff to ensure an effective continuum of functions, formulate goals, action plans, policies and procedures, and descriptions related to operational process change and/or improvement and implements new processes or change and monitors effectiveness of actions, providing feedback and modification as indicated.
The position communicates routinely with department management staff as well as other departments within the hospital, patients, external facilities and physicians. The supervisor displays a willingness to support policies and procedures of the medical center and the Surgical Services department.
The supervisor will routinely communicate with the department leadership regarding any problems, issues or concerns.
Special reports, resolution of issues or problems, communication of process changes, and monitoring of performance fall within the scope of Surgical Technician supervisor.
The supervisor must be familiar with HIPPAA standards and able to communicate to physicians, hospital staff, patients and all other customers.
The supervisor ensures that all Renown Regional Medical Center and JCHAO standards and policies are followed.
The position requires the incumbent to make independent decisions on the division of work assignments to subordinates.
This position acts as a role model and resource to the Surgical Services staff, and physicians.
This position does provide patient care.

Education:
Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. Must complete a formal technologist school program or a formal hospital based training program.
Experience:
3 years as a Technologist required
License(s):
None
Certification(s):
Current BLS certification by the American Heart Association standards required.
Certification of Surgical technologist preferred.
Surgical First Assistant:Surgical Technologist may perform in the capacity of a first assist ifhe or she is a graduate of an surgical assistant first assistant program that included didactic and supervised clinical practice, is based on The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting requirements in 200201, 400201, 200340
If uncertified, incumbent is required to complete at least 15 hours of continuing education concerning the practice of surgical technology upon completion of first year of employment and on an annual basis thereafter.If certified, incumbent must maintain minimum qualifications in order to maintain certification.
Computer / Typing:
Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days,the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
