Supervisor of the Technology Scale-Up Unit PROGRAM AND PROJECT SUPERVISOR, PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION $12,196.00 - $15,266.00 per Month Final Filing Date: 9/19/2024 Job Description and Duties The Energy Research & Development Division (ERDD) deploys over $300 million annually to advance technology innovation and research supporting the state’s clean energy and climate goals, including in the areas of renewable energy supply, building and industrial decarbonization, sustainable transportation, energy storage, energy distribution, resilience and reliability, and carbon management. Under the general direction of a Branch Manager, a Program and Project Supervisor (Supervisor) in ERDD leads, supervises, and directs a multi-disciplinary team of approximately 6 - 10 staff and oversees a technology development and research investment portfolio. The Supervisor oversees program planning, implementation, and evaluation activities; policy analyses; stakeholder engagement; and reviews of written products and presentations. The Supervisor also serves as a high-level specialist, conducting or overseeing the most challenging technical work. The Supervisor also confers with and assists the Branch Manager, Executive Leadership, and Commissioner leadership on issues of relevance to the Supervisor’s portfolio. The Supervisor represents and supports the Division and California Energy Commission in meetings, briefings, conferences, and workshops, engaging other agencies, the Legislature, companies, research organizations, communities, and other stakeholders; participates in investigations and hearings and testifies as an expert witness in proceedings before the California Public Utilities Commission and courts; and prepares correspondence and reports. The Technology Innovation & Entrepreneurship Branch (TIEB) supports the development and commercialization of emerging energy technologies – for buildings, industry, transportation, and the grid – along the innovation pipeline from early concepts and prototypes through early manufacturing, the scale-up and deployment of new clean energy technologies, and entrepreneurial support and network development. The TIEB’s Technology Scale-Up Unit supports clean energy entrepreneurs and start-ups in commercializing and scaling-up innovative clean energy technologies through development and demonstration activities. This also includes engaging with a broad network of stakeholders including, but not limited to, state and federal agencies, academic institutions, national labs, investors, industry, labor organizations, technology incubators and accelerators, and low-income and disadvantaged communities to find applicable pathways for innovative technologies to scale across various market sectors and industries. *Pending DOF approval.
