About the role:

We are currently seeking an Outby Supervisor to join our Production team at our Shoal Creek Mine. Shoal Creek Mine is one of the deepest underground coal mines in the U.S. Located on the Black Warrior River with barge transportation leading to the Port of Mobile in the Gulf of Mexico, the mine produces one of the highest-quality met coal in the US. Eight-foot-tall entries, a brand-new longwall, paved road into the mine and 15+ years of coal reserves make Shoal Creek mine an ideal place to work. 

 

Located in between Jefferson, Walker, and Tuscaloosa counties in Alabama, offers beautiful rivers and lakes, landscapes, and rolling hills at the foot of the Appalachian Mountains. A major airport is just under an hour away in Birmingham. Minutes from Tuscaloosa and West Alabama and a diverse, family-friendly community with something for everyone. The Outby Supervisor coordinates development and production operations and the integration of maintenance and other activities to achieve planned production and to identify potential improvements to the mining process.

 

Duties will include:

Visibly support and champion Peabody’s Missions and Values  Act in accordance with and adhere to Safety as a Way of Life Management System Plan, direct and lead the work of a crew or team. Coordinate all aspects of development, and/or longwall, and/or production, and/or continuous operator activity. Liaise with superintendents, supervisors, technical services staff, maintenance personnel and contractors. Identify potential improvements to the mining process. Ensure activities are aligned to planned development and production forecasts and budgets. Monitor actual versus target production and initiating remedial action as appropriate. Ensure activities comply with safety, environmental and statutory requirements. Conduct and reviewing hazard and risk assessments and communicating outcomes to all mining personnel. Promote safety among the workforces. Conduct proper examinations as required by State, Federal and Mine policy. Coordinate required preventive maintenance and repairs to equipment and communicate results. Coordinate and conduct crew safety and information sharing meetings. Coordinate and conduct training for safety, task, and operational needs. Ensure activities comply with safety, environmental and statutory requirements. Other duties as assigned by the company.

 

The Lifestyle:

This position will work Monday-Friday, rotating every two weeks on a 3-shift rotation of midnights, afternoons, and days schedule. This position may also require the necessity to work weekends, holidays, or another shift as deemed necessary.

About you:

2 years of relevant mining experience required.  High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required. Trade Certificate preferred.

 

Physical Requirements - Surface Environment 

Must have the ability to stand for up to 4 hours per shift. Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles. Must have the ability to work from elevated positions, walk/climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on/off equipment and ladders. Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms/legs and good hand to eye coordination. Must have the ability to lift/raise 10 – 50 lbs. without mechanical assistance frequently during the work shift. Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light/dark, in and around artificial light, and in a confined work area. Must have the ability to work various shifts (required shifts include days, evening, and nights, with rotating schedules, weekends, and holidays)

 

Physical Requirements - Underground Environment

Must have the ability to stand for prolonged periods of time on uneven, rocky surfaces for up to the entire length of the shift. Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles. Must have the ability to walk for up to 4 hours at a time. Will be required to walk through different sections of the mine with varying degrees of clearance and headroom. Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA Must have the ability to bend or stoop for a full work period as a result of mine height. Must have the ability to climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on/off equipment and ladders. Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms/legs and good hand to eye coordination. Must have the ability to lift 25 – 50 lbs. on a frequent basis and the ability to occasionally lift items weighing up to 80 lbs. Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light/dark, in and around artificial light, and in a confined work area. Must have the ability to work various shifts (required shifts include days, evening, and nights, with rotating schedules, weekends and holidays)

 

Physical Requirements - Office

Must have the ability to sit for up to 8 hours. Must be able to use a computer and communicate effectively in various forms, including email and by phone. Must have the ability to review paper and electronic documents and complete computer entry of data from paper documents. Must be able to find, remove and return files to/from file cabinets and discuss issues by telephone and in person. Must be able to operate copier, fax machine, etc.
