Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

In this role, you will lead a group of controls resources to produce complete controls solutions and electrical design packages based on project specifications and standardized design practices used within Corning's Optical Technology Automation Development Group.

Key Responsibilities Supervise, train, and guide all electrical controls engineering designers and technicians. Collaborates with Early-Stage Development Engineering team in support of concepts, testbeds, and owns projects through manufacturing deployment.  Works with other members of the project team to develop an electrical design providing required functionality . Evaluates and communicates the performance for assigned team members ensuring both technical and behavioral assessments are submitted in a timely manner. Set goals for all team members in alignment with project expectations.  Creates controls strategy for process automation technology organization. Work with mechanical designers during mechanical design process to conceptualize a control system that will enable the machine to perform its intended function safely and reliably. Works with members of the project teams to ensure that cost and schedule budgets are adhered to or improved upon.  Assigns controls resources to automation portfolio projects based on priority.  Ensures, checks, and approves that all work produced by the design team members is acceptable based on functionality, adherence to standards, accuracy, completeness, and consideration for safety.   Approves all material requisitions for projects assigned to their team.  Ensures that scheduled milestones relating to Electrical Controls engineering designs are achieved.  Reviews and evaluates new Electrical Controls market innovations that may be relevant for new equipment designs that may provide a cost effective, and up-to-date electrical solution. Experiences/Education - Required 2 years of hardware design experience and 3 years of leading automation design with emphasis on driving teams to meeting schedule and budget. Task-driven, detail oriented individual, with the ability to work additional hours as needed. Ability to work with and communicate effectively at all levels within the company and with senior client officials. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements:

Due to arc flash and shock hazards, proper arc flash PPE must be always worn when working on live panels. Employees must always comply with the specific PPE requirements identified on the ARC Flash and Shock Hazard Warning Labels. These will be posted at machine electrical panels, switchgear locations, breaker panels, bus ducts, and equipment related power drops.

The range for this position is  $137,812.00   -  $189,492.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
