Summary The Eastern Oklahoma VA Medical Center is recruiting for one Supervisory Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist- Chief Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist position at the Muskogee, OK location. Responsibilities VA Careers - Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist: https://youtube.com/embed/I-4ku5UMvWM As Supervisory Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (Chief Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist) at the Eastern Oklahoma VA Health Care System Radiology Department, the incumbent has the responsibility for planning, developing, and directing all Imaging operations of Radiology Service. This involves providing radiological studies in the in-patient and outpatient clinics, operating rooms, Emergency department and ICU, as well as areas throughout the medical center and offsite locations. They have full responsibility for technical aspects and patient care functions within the Radiology Service. The incumbent has supervisory responsibility over the lead or supervisor technologists in all Imaging modalities. Incumbent supports the Chief, Radiology Service, who provides the direct supervision of the position. Other duties may include, but are not limited to: - Directs the technical services and programs that support this facility, VA satellite clinics in surrounding communities and VISN 19. The incumbent's services have a significant impact on organizational efficiency and efficacy in providing critical patient support. The incumbent's ability to identify and implement methods for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of performing these services and the liaison role the incumbent plays affect the overall operational services to the patients, families, and community. - Plans and coordinates work to be accomplished by sub-areas: general radiography, Computed Tomography, ultrasound, MRI, breast imaging, bone densitometry, nuclear medicine and Interventional Radiology. Sets and adjusts short-term and long-term priorities and prepares schedules for goals on completion of assigned tasks. - Ensures the monitoring of all activities within the radiology sections and takes appropriate action as required to ensure operational efficiency and efficacy. - Coordinates the integration of the Radiology Department functions with other aspects of overall patient care. - Participates in the development/revision, implementation and communication of goals, policies, and standards for the department. - Works with nursing and other clinical supervisors in addressing radiology service issues and to support the maintenance of high-quality patient care. - Assesses and reviews requisitions with clerical staff and technologists, interacts with requesting physicians and radiologists regarding requests when necessary. - Responsible for the technical aspect of radiologic equipment operation and safety and for carrying out the recommendations of the radiology safety committee. - Practices hospital safety, infection control, universal precaution, and radiation safety in accordance with age and/or gender specific departmental guidelines. - Ensures activities of division are carried out to meet the goals of the department in a timely manner. - Assigns work based on priorities, consideration of difficulty and requirements of assignments, and capabilities of employees. - Evaluates and directs work performance of subordinates. - The incumbent is responsible for the performance of the individuals within the department of Radiology. He/she recommends promotions, reassignments, or other status changes of assigned personnel. Resolves informal complaints of employees. - Effectively communicates verbally and through example and attitude, the goals and mission of the service to employees under his/her supervision. - Provides advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both clinical and administrative matters. - Performs evaluation of employees under his/her supervision, i.e. competency reviews and Performance appraisals. - Advises employees under his/her direct supervision of performance requirements. Keeps them informed of their progress in meeting these requirements. Holds corrective interviews with employees regarding inadequate performance or conduct. - Communicates with union representatives on personnel matters as per Master Agreement. Implements provisions of personnel management programs where well-established procedures exist such as EEO, career development plans, departmental policy and procedures, award and incentive programs, grievance procedures and safety practices. BASIC REQUIREMENTS Citizenship. Be a citizen of the United States. Education. Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from [other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE). English Language Proficiency. Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English Certification. At this level, it is highly desirable that supervisors possess certification in two or more functional specialties. Participation in recognized professional organizations as a Board examiner, in the development of curricula for training, or testing for the Board is evidence of competence. Education and Experience. At least 1 year of experience comparable to the next lower grade level, which is directly related to the duties of the position to be filled and must fully meet the KSAs at that level. Grade Requirements GS-12 Experience. At least one year of the following types of experience comparable to the next lower grade level that fully meets the KSAs at that level. Assignments. For all assignments above the full performance level, the higher-level duties must consist of significant scope, complexity (difficulty), and range of variety, and be performed by the incumbent at least 25% of the time. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities GS-11. Ability to analyze organizational, technical, and administrative problems and to develop and implement solutions that result in efficient section operation. Ability to analyze and use data effectively to manage section workload, quality, performance, and productivity. Skill in problem solving and conflict resolution. Ability to supervise technologists performing a wide variety of difficult radiographic exams (CT, MRI, Special Procedures, Mammography, Ultrasound). Ability to interview and evaluate candidates for positions, evaluate subordinate performance, recommend appointments, advancements, or recommend or take appropriate disciplinary actions. Skill in participating in organizational facility initiatives, workgroups, and/or committees. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities GS-12. The candidate must demonstrate the following technical KSAs and demonstrate the potential to acquire the assignment-specific KSAs designated by an asterisk (*): *Ability to perform the full range of supervisory duties, including responsibility for assignment of work performed; performance evaluations; recommendations for appointments, awards, advancements, and, when appropriate, disciplinary actions; and identification of continuing education and training needs. Ability to serve as a consultant to other facility personnel in evaluating and planning radiologic technology services for the most complex cases. *Ability to participate in research studies and/or as a consultant to others conducting research. *Ability to consult with staff and resident physicians through patient presentation, attending ward rounds, and specialty clinics and/or conferences, etc. *Ability to assess, plan, and evaluate the delivery of radiologic technology services at the facility.
