Summary You will serve as a SUPERVISORY GENERAL ENGINEER/ARCHITECT for Construction in the DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY of NAVFAC SIGONELLA, Italy. Responsibilities You will manage the assigned construction workload within the Planning, Design and Construction Branch at the assigned FEAD Office. You will provide senior leadership related to the construction product line and construction management efforts. You will be responsible for assisting in the forecasting of workload into out- years in preparation of resource planning requests for the branch. You will provide construction engineering expertise on assigned projects managed within the FEAD office, particularly those of an unusual or complex nature. You will serve as the lead technical representative within the FEAD in matters involving construction contract changes and claims. You will be responsible for accurately projecting, monitoring, and reporting on Work-in-Place (WIP) within the branch of the FEAD. You will actively supervise a technical staff comprised of US and Host Nation civilians and, in some instances, military Civil Engineer Corps (CEC) Junior Officers (JOs) as well. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT CONTINUED: This is a Defense Acquisition Workforce position that requires an Engineering and Technical Management, Foundational acquisition certification. The incumbent has 36 months to earn this certification. Incumbent must obtain and maintain certification in accordance with DoD Instruction 6000.66. Acquisition Workforce (AWF) members must complete 80 hours of Continuous Learning Points (CLPs) every two (2) years, in accordance with DoDI 5000.66. Workforce members are encouraged to earn their CLPs by completing Defense Acquisition University (DAU) Credentials. The curriculum for a degree in either architecture or architectural engineering covers function, esthetics, site, structure, economics, mechanical-electrical, and other engineering problems related to the design and construction of buildings primarily (but not exclusively) intended to house human activities. The courses required for a degree in architecture generally place emphasis upon planning, esthetics, and materials and methods of construction, while the courses for an architectural engineering degree place equal or greater weight on the technical engineering aspects such as structural systems, mechanical systems, and the properties of materials. Because of this difference in emphasis, persons with degrees in architecture may have a preference for work assignments that offer greater opportunities for them to express their artistic and creative abilities.
