SUPERVISORY INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST
Summary You will serve as a SUPERVISORY INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST in the Occupational Safety, Health and Environment Office of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF. Responsibilities You will be responsible for all technical aspects of the command's occupational health program. You will develop, maintain, and issue general and unique Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) instructions You will assure compliance with, and adequacy of, OSH program regulations, guidelines, training and procedures. You will direct engineering efforts to design or improve ventilation systems, tools, equipment and processes. You will utilize manpower and material resources effectively and efficiently. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing professional industrial hygienist duties, providing leadership, technical oversight, and evaluation of occupational health programs to ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health standards to reduce occupational and environmental factors that may create health risk. Education Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess: A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science; or A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene: or Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH). Courses in the history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Additional Information This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. This position requires exposure to high noise levels. Temporary promotions may be extended up to 5 years at the discretion of management and in accordance with applicable regulations.
