Supplier Development Engineer, Staff (Europe & India)
The Global Supplier Development Engineer (GSDE) with expertise in Stamping and Fineblanking processes is responsible for implementing, supporting, and managing global supplier development strategies and performance to ensure flawless launches of new programs. This role involves assessing suppliers' manufacturing competencies, coordinating technical reviews, and developing supplier capabilities to meet BorgWarner's requirements. The GSDE will also conduct supplier quality training, drive performance improvements, and support both regional and global needs in screening suppliers, program launch requirements (APQP), and series delivery. This position requires a recognized expert in stamping and fineblanking processes and the ability to lead cross-functional technical problem resolution.

Main responsibilities:

Implement and support global supplier development activities to ensure flawless launches of new programs.Lead the APQP process and coordinate technical reviews and assessments.Develop supplier capabilities to meet BorgWarner's requirements and drive performance improvements to established objectives.Conduct supplier quality training and proliferate best manufacturing practices globally.Conduct regular audits and special surveys at suppliers' facilities to determine adequacy and capability of quality control.Lead cross-functional technical problem resolution at suppliers using advanced problem-solving tools and commodity-specific knowledge.Support both local and global needs by visiting new/resourced and/or high-impact suppliers to ensure APQP process integrity and timing.Develop and implement quality initiatives to improve cost, reduce PPMs, CPMs, and improve 8D response times.Analyze suppliers' and sub-suppliers' capacities and drive improvements to meet BorgWarner's production requirements.Provide input to commodity strategy and maintain summary status of suppliers relative to delivery, capacity, capability, quality, and other criteria.Ensure supplier conformance to IATF 16949 and other relevant standards.Prepare periodic and special reports concerning supplier improvement activities and quality system status.Provide support to plants in the region with supplier quality/development challenges and assist other regions dealing with European suppliers.Offer support during high-impact (NUD = New Unique or Difficult) supplier launches within the region.Aid in the launch of Europe suppliers for other regions.Assist plants in applying the QIP level 3 process to address systemic issues with critical suppliers.Manage high-level supplier escalations within the region.Support audits, eAPQP tasks follow-up, problem-solving, and troubleshooting for plants.Enhance awareness and improve Supplier Sustainability, including SAQ and M2030 initiatives.Develop regional expertise to promote supplier sustainability improvements.Evaluate new suppliers in the Supplier Vetting Process through audits.Assist the GSM team in selecting new suppliers.Collaborate closely with the regional team for the advanced development of potential suppliers.Manage advanced quality planning activities.Conduct TSA/VDA Potential Supplier, VDA 6.3, and WAR audits.
