Supplier Development Engineer (SDE)
Summary
The SDE will communicate, implement, and assure proper execution of the Supplier Quality Manual, Danfoss global standards, tools and templates for each supplier and/or project in their category. A successful SDE is highly motivated & able to work independently with minimal supervision, aids in preventing failures related to supplier manufacturing processes and material changes, prevents recurring supplier failures on components, prevents non-conforming components from entering the market, secures speed and effectiveness in implementation of supplier improvement plans, and secures supplier readiness to engage and execute new business & resourcing projects.
Job Responsibilities
Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following.
• Initiate, coordinate and manage the claim handling process to ensure timely and effective resolution of major or escalated operational issues with suppliers, engaging the right people (internal & external).
• Work with suppliers to investigate root causes and implement corrective actions (8D) to prevent recurrence of quality issues.
• Support ASQE or perform ASQE duties to facilitate and complete the Pre-Manufacturing Review and DFM processes for complex parts/projects.
• Verify form and content of the PPAP documents meet standards by completing the PPAP checklist and communicate issues back to suppliers for correction.
• Support SQE and ASQE (when applicable) on new supplier PPAP's and major project PPAP's including on site run off's in support of implementation teams as required."
• Ensure supplier is fully trained and capable to understand and commit on all Danfoss quality requirements, tools and processes (PMR, DFM, PPAP, Claims handling, 8D, work cell audits, etc.).
• Ensure supplier understands change control expectations as outlined in the supplier quality manual, including notifying Danfoss of changes and completed all aspect of PPAP.
• Identify gaps where execution does not meet expectations and train people to enable action plans to close gaps.
• Ensure supplier representatives and management are fully engaged and taking ownership of problems and solutions.
• Ensure the suppliers in the category are audited and approved according to the Danfoss standards.
• Perform the lead auditor role and follow up on activities with suppliers.
• Verify the supplier improvement plans are targeted to meet or exceed Danfoss expectations and that they are implemented to the agreed timelines
• Ensure supplier quality and performance data is available and accurate at all times for suppliers in their category.
• Benchmark best in class practices and drive suppliers to that performance."
• Maintain an expert level understanding of the global standards, tools, and templates and tie them to Danfoss expectations.
• Adapt training to target and influence people at all levels of the organization (internal & external) to drive improvement in KPI’s.
• Train SQE and ASQE and all other quality stakeholders in the understanding and use of Danfoss tools, processes and Standards.
• Lead supplier development projects to drive key suppliers to targeted quality performance levels
Qualifications
Required (basic) qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) and/or 5 years spent within quality engineering. 3-5 years technical experience within a manufacturing environment.
