Headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, Hayward also has facilities in Tennessee, Arizona, and Rhode Island as well as Canada, Spain, France, Australia, and China.  This position is based in ­Nashville, TN.

 

Position Overview

The SQE/QE Hybrid will be the primary QA position responsible for recruiting, assessing, developing, and managing all Quality related activities for contracted manufacturers to whom Hayward outsources work.  These contracted manufacturers may perform activities for Hayward such as injection molding, blow molding, extrusion molding, assembly, metals forming or fabrication, or electronics assembly and test. In addition, the position will be responsible for plant activities as well such as scrap/reject reduction, FAI’s, Root Cause Analysis. Additional tasks where necessary could be assigned. The position will be based in Nashville and will support national contract manufacturing. 

 

Responsibilities Work in partnership with the Commodity Management staff to establish quality performance standards for potential contract manufacturing partners, assess potential partners for compliance to these standards, and actively participate in the selection decision.Assist in new manufacturing partner start-ups, including process or assembly qualification, First Article Inspection approval, establishing packaging / transit requirements, and other activities as may be required for a successful partnership. This applies to suppliers as well as internally. Maintain an ongoing periodic assessment (audit) program of contract manufacturing partner performance. Track and report Non-Conformance (NCMR) rates for contract manufacturing partners, provide feedback to partners, and proactively address performance issues.  Recommend corrective action for poorly performing contract manufacturers, including replacement with an alternative contract manufacturer when appropriate. Internally work with customers (Production, Product Design, Manufacturing Engineering, etc…) to complete internal or warranty corrective action.Assist in failure analysis of product issues using 8D methodology. Communicate results to the contract manufacturer and ensure effective and timely corrective action(s) are taken. If the issue requires a deeper dive the Shainin problem solving method will be used.              Support and actively participate in continuous improvement / cost reduction opportunities with contract manufacturers whenever appropriate. The same can be said for internal continuous improvement / cost reduction opportunities.Perform duties as assigned by the plant Quality Manager. Serve as the Quality Manager delegate during periods of absence of the Quality Manager.Ability to travel 5-15% of the time, nationally as required.

 

Qualifications Able to apply fundamental statistical techniques in the analysis of data sets.Proficient in use of standard geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T) terminology as it applies to prints and models. A minimum of 5 years’ experience with proven knowledge of Supplier Quality Engineer and/or Quality Engineer activities.

Education / Experience:

BS Degree in a Technical Field

Shainin Red-X Certified Apprentice

ASQ Certified Quality Engineer

Experience in selecting and managing contract manufacturers.

Well versed in fundamental Quality and LEAN manufacturing concepts and terminology.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Proficient in the use of fundamental statistical methods to analyze data sets, including capability analysis, Statistical Process Control, etc.

 

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Competent in personal computer operation.  Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).  Ability to learn new applications as required.

 

Language Skills:

Read and interpret technical information and procedure manuals, safety rules, and operating instructions.  Write routine reports and correspondence in English.  Verbally communicate in English. Multilingual is a plus.
