Job DescriptionAs Supplier Network Quality Engineer, you will work and support Surface Treatment initiatives, apply your knowledge of paint and surface treatment principals and work to certify suppliers to the company standard. You will provide supply chain expertise to buyers and suppliers while operating as an important link between purchasing and the plants. This role will support issues related to quality of paint and surface treatment in the supply chain. You will strive to apply, develop, and expand on your professional knowledge of paint processes and surface treatment as it relates to the Supply Chain. This role will support the critical projects, actively participate in sourcing and supplier selection, Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) activities. You will support and push suppliers to maintain the level of product and quality performance, while resolving product quality concerns within the supply chain.
Responsibilities
• Be an active member in North America Purchasing team with responsibility and accountability for projects where you have responsibility.
• Provides support for current investigation, planning and implementation of critical projects.
• Knowledgeable working with liquid paint application.
• Provide Support and share knowledge of quality, purchasing, and manufacturing experience in paint, surface treatment technologies for automotive and/or heavy-duty truck industry.
• Audit and develop Surface Treatment Suppliers.
• Contribute to the SPD activities in accordance with defined strategies and targets.
• Ensure that there is close interaction with suppliers, develop and work with cross functional teams to ensure common strategy is driven and communicated to the suppliers.
• Ensuring the best supplier is selected, following the Technology & Supplier Evaluation processes.
• Responsible and accountable in communicating performance indicators to suppliers, like PPAP, APQP, Supplier Delivery Precision, and PPM/QPM (Quality Performance Measure) and capacity analysis.
• Responsible for keeping all part quality information accurate and updated in the company’s Global Purchasing System.
• Responsible to follow up preventive quality action programs when needed and follow up on corrective actions.
• Generate and track product or process related deviations to support production until full approval and compliance can be obtained.
• Review and assist in quality rejections that occur in the manufacturing environment because of supplier deficiencies.
• 5-8 years of relevant supplier quality experience from automotive industry.
• Paint and surface treatment, chemical processing background and knowledge of manufacturing processes
• Paint booth operational knowledge.
• Preferred University Degree Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, Material Science or equivalent work experience
• Proficient with Quality tools, including Capacity Evaluation (R@R, SPR, Bottleneck Analysis), PPAP, APQP, Problem Solving, and SPC.
• Knowledgeable in current and future business trends, technology, and markets.
• Able to execute in a global organization (Preferred).
• Strong Knowledge of Supply Chain Management
• Ability to communicate in English, written and orally.
• Knowledge of automotive quality standards and tools such as, ISO 9000:2015, IATF16949, ISO14001.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to create networks with strong communication skills to lead cross functional activities within multi-cultural teams.
• Ability to work independently when required.
• Desire to travel to suppliers within US / occasionally Mexico or Canada for 50-70% of the time.
