Position Overview:

Our Traction Drives business in Alpharetta, GA is looking for a Supplier Quality Engineer with complex metal part experience to help ensure the quality of railway vehicle parts provided by our suppliers. This position will have a leading role in all aspects of supplier quality management. Up to 50% travel required at times (domestic and international).

What your day-to-day will look like:

You will lead First Article Inspection/ PPAP activities with suppliers by defining and communicating part qualification requirements, verifying documentation, critical dimensions, and other characteristics of complex parts at the supplier’s location. This includes using measuring equipment and engineering documentation to conduct inspections, verifying processes, preparing detailed reports and developing action plans to resolve nonconformities. You will conduct product reviews by reviewing engineering requirements with suppliers to ensure technical requirements are clearly understood. This includes collaborating with engineering to help clarify requirements and ensuring engineering deviations and substitutions are approved. You will support supplier qualification by conducting product and process audits in accordance with VDA 6.3 at supplier sites, providing risk analysis, supporting quality agreements, facilitating improvement plans and checking their effectiveness.   You will oversee the internal control and disposition of nonconforming product received from suppliers. This includes leading evaluations, segregation, communication, and overseeing the prompt cross functional disposition of rejected parts to minimize impact to production. You will support the handling of supplier related nonconformities with suppliers, root cause analysis, corrective actions, ongoing performance monitoring, metric reporting, and driving improvement plans. You will conduct incoming inspection planning, define inspection requirements, select inspection tools, sampling plans and methods. You will lead internal process improvements to address gaps, improve capabilities and optimize processes to be more efficient and effective. You will train & guide others, support the development of training material and provide process training. To thrive in this role, you have:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering 2-5 years proven experience in a manufacturing quality engineer role with experience in a supplier quality engineer role. Experience with metal fabrication processes. Highly proficient in reading and understanding mechanical drawings/blueprints with GD&T knowledge and experience.   Highly proficient in the use of calipers, micrometers, and other quality measurement tools and using judgement to determine the appropriate measurement technique.Experience in evaluating quality inspection methods. Ability to communicate technical information with others at all levels of the organization, suppliers, and customers. Must be able to prepare comprehensive inspection reports and metric reporting using MS Office tools. Advanced knowledge of corrective action/ and quality methodology (8D, Ishikawa, FMEA, APQP, FAI) Advanced knowledge of quality management systems with experience performing quality system audits. Ability to effectively communicate when involved in sensitive situations with suppliers and customers. Must be willing to work in a manufacturing environment under the conditions listed in the job description and meet the physical demands. Ability to work independently with a high degree of assertiveness. Up to 50% travel required (domestic and international) Automotive or Rail industry experience preferred Machining, Casting, Welding, Painting process experience preferred Quality auditor certification preferred

The salary may be higher or lower depending on the budget and the candidate's experience, knowledge, skills, and qualifications.
