Job Description:
The Supply Chain Engineer is responsible for designing, creating, and implementing data workflows and processes to maximize Intermountain Health supply chain operations. This position will leverage knowledge and expertise in data analytics, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning to automate processes and extract actionable data from complex datasets across multiple sources. The Supply Chain Engineer will be responsible for creating tools and providing key information that is critical to the success of the supply chain and its stakeholders.This role will work a typical M-F 8-4 shift. The position is hybrid with Tuesdays and Wednesdays in office at either Midvale Supply Chain Center or Intermountain Peaks Broomfield Campus.
Responsibilities of the Supply Chain Engineer include:
Supply chain process design: Designs and develops efficient and effective supply chain data, business intelligence and AI supported processes tailored to the unique needs of the healthcare industry. Collaborates with cross-functional teams to analyze existing processes, identify bottlenecks, and design optimized workflows that enhance operational efficiency.
Systems implementation and integration: Evaluates, selects, and implements supply chain systems and technologies, such as enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, warehouse management systems (WMS), and transportation management systems (TMS). Ensures seamless integration and data synchronization between various systems to enable end-to-end visibility and control of the healthcare supply chain.
Performance optimization: Analyzes supply chain performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify areas for improvement. Utilizes data analytics and modeling techniques to optimize inventory management, demand forecasting, capacity planning, and transportation routing, minimizing costs and enhancing service levels.
Process automation and optimization: Identifies opportunities for process automation and optimization within the healthcare supply chain. Implements technologies, such as robotic process automation (RPA) and artificial intelligence (AI), to streamline repetitive tasks, improve data accuracy, and enhance overall productivity.
Collaborative stakeholder management: Partners with internal and external stakeholders, including suppliers, manufacturers, logistics providers, and healthcare professionals, to develop collaborative relationships and align supply chain processes. Fosters effective communication and collaboration to ensure smooth operations and timely resolution of supply chain issues.
Supply operations risk management and contingency planning: Identifies potential operational risks and disruptions within the healthcare supply chain, such as supply shortages, transportation delays, and regulatory changes. Develops and implements operational risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans to ensure continuity of supply and minimize the impact of disruptions.
Continuous improvement initiatives: Proactively identifies opportunities for continuous improvement within the healthcare supply chain. Stays updated on industry best practices, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes to drive innovation and enhance operational excellence.
Documentation and reporting: Maintains accurate documentation of supply chain processes, system configurations, and operational procedures. Prepares regular reports and presentations to communicate supply chain performance, improvement initiatives, and strategic recommendations to stakeholders and senior management.
Minimum Qualifications
Proven experience working in supply chain management, preferably within the healthcare industry.
Solid understanding of healthcare supply chain processes, including procurement, inventory management, distribution, and logistics.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex data sets and derive actionable insights.
Proficient in data analysis tools and techniques, such as Excel, SQL, and data visualization software.
Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
Knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance related to healthcare supply chain management.
Familiarity with supply chain software systems and technologies (e.g., ERP, WMS, TMS) is highly desirable.
Continuous improvement mindset with a passion for driving operational excellence and innovation within the supply chain.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and external suppliers.
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, logistics, business administration, or a related field.
Master’s degree in business management, data science, supply chain management.
Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
Experience working in a large volume supply chain organization or healthcare supply chain procurement.
Knowledge of and experience in healthcare strategy.
Knowledge & understanding of artificial intelligence, big data, and machine learning.
