Job Summary

The Giant Eagle Intern Development Program Supply Chain intern position is designed to provide college/university students with real world business experience in a supply chain capacity at our retail support centers in Cleveland and Pittsburgh. This full-time, paid internship will provide hands-on training and experience in working in supply chain at Giant Eagle.

Throughout the 10-week internship, you will spend your days learning to understand warehouse operations including but not limited to inbound and outbound operations, productivity and labor tracking, new hire training and how the warehouse interacts with transportation, store teams, customer service and our replenishment partners. You will spend time with warehouse leaders diving into daily issues to help with continuous improvement projects with the goal of improving operating efficiencies and site retention.

Leadership, specifically around leading others and yourselfCustomer service, including stores, vendors and our partners throughout GEKnowledge in retail and supply chain business fundamentalsGoal settingBusiness acumenProject managementPublic speaking skills as you may be asked to present project findings to building leadersInterpersonal skills as you interact with union and non-union team membersSupply chain knowledge as you learn the processes and procedures carried out dailyPartnership as you will work with many different leaders in different areas of the business on various projectsFinancial acumen as you gain understanding of a warehouse P&L and how daily decisions affect the business financiallyDecision making as you work through projects to determine the recommended path forwardUnderstanding of recruiting and retention processes and challengesPreparing presentations in different programs and formatsData analysis to determine points of underperformance within the warehouse operations, collaborating and implementing solutions to those challenges

As a Giant Eagle intern, no two days are the same, but a typical day may include the following:

Spending time shadowing leader and team membersLeading through daily prioritiesWorking with leadership to set goals and expectationsCollaborating with fellow  interns on projectsDelivering an excellent Guest experienceWorking with leaders to understand business reporting and Guest insightsActively participating in internship training activities, development opportunities, and eventsFoster a safe, diverse, and inclusive cultureCarry out specific duties as assigned

Are a college or university student with at least 1 year of university experienceAre studying supply chain managementPossess a strong interest in working in a warehouse setting or retail shared services (corporate roles)Have previous retail/warehouse experience (preferred, but not required)Quickly learn and adapt to current technology trends and needsWork well independently and as a part of a teamManage workload and prioritize tasks independentlyUtilize effective communication skills
