Position Overview
The Supply Chain Packaging and Container Engineer plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and cost-effective movement, storage, and protection of goods throughout the supply chain. Responsibilities
+ Packaging Design and Developmento Develop packaging solutions for components, sub-assemblies, and finished goods.o Ensure packaging meets product protection requirements, ergonomic standards, and compliance with regulations (e.g., hazmat or environmental laws).o Optimize designs for cost, weight, space utilization, and ease of handling.
+ Container Managemento Design and implement reusable and returnable container systems to reduce waste and improve cost efficiency.o Standardize container types across supply chain operations to simplify logistics and reduce complexity.o Collaborate with vendors to source containers that meet specifications.
+ Supply Chain Optimizationo Assess and optimize packaging and container designs to improve transportation efficiency (e.g., maximizing cube utilization).o Minimize packaging waste while maintaining product integrity.o Conduct time studies or simulations to improve material flow and handling within production and warehouse operations.
+ Cross-Functional Collaborationo Work with procurement, suppliers, logistics, and production teams to align packaging requirements with supply chain objectives.o Collaborate with production engineers to ensure packaging supports manufacturing efficiency.o Coordinate with quality teams to test and validate packaging for compliance and durability.
+ Sustainability Initiativeso Drive initiatives to use recyclable or biodegradable materials to align with corporate sustainability goals.o Reduce the environmental footprint of packaging by optimizing material usage and implementing reusable systems.
+ Technical Documentation and Standardso Develop and maintain packaging specifications, standards, and drawings.o Document best practices for packaging and containerization.o Ensure adherence to industry standards and regulations (e.g., ISTA, ISO 11607).
+ Problem-Solving and Continuous Improvemento Troubleshoot packaging and container-related issues in the supply chain.o Conduct root cause analyses to address product damage or inefficiencies.o Implement corrective actions and track improvements.
+ Cost Managemento Analyze the cost implications of packaging materials and container systems.o Negotiate with suppliers to reduce costs without compromising quality.o Monitor and optimize packaging spend across the supply chain.
Minimum Requirements
+ Bachelor's degree
+ At least 2 years of supply chain, engineering or manufacturing experience
OR
+ Master's degree
+ At least 1 years of supply chain, engineering or manufacturing experience
OR
+ At least 5 years of supply chain, engineering or manufacturing experience
Additional Requirements
+ Qualified candidates, excluding current International Motors employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States.
