General Job Description
This is a service position responsible for coordinating services in support of instructional activities and any combination of activities specified in the mission of the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture. Responsible for the maintenance and repair of all college vehicles and equipment; preparing inventory and mileage reports, service and maintenance records; and assisting in the preparation of technical reports. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Dean.
Essential Job Functions
+ Supervises the issuance of equipment and supplies to students, faculty, and staff.
+ Operates motor vehicles up to one ton.
+ Prepares inventory and mileage reports, service and maintenance records, and assists in the preparation of technical reports.
+ Conducts basic vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair. Schedules more complex vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair with appropriate internal or external resources.
+ Assembles materials and equipment for lab or classroom use.
+ Supervises assigned student workers.
+ Orders supplies and equipment.
+ Advises administrators and faculty on equipment conditions, supply levels, and other areas of concern.
+ Serves on the Transportation Committee to determine the future vehicle needs of the college.
+ Conducts hands-on training for motor vehicle operations to comply with UT System and university policies.
Non-Essential Job Functions
+ May tow a trailer while operating a motor vehicle.
+ May assist faculty or project leaders with off-site project situations.
+ Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
+ Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures.
+ Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, basic maintenance and repair procedures for motor vehicles and trailers.
+ Skill in the use of standard tools and equipment for assigned functions.
+ Organizational skills in managing projects simultaneously while maintaining a satisfactory work product.
+ Ability to identify problems with vehicles and equipment and expedite repairs and service.
+ Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records, files, and reports.
+ Ability to operate personal computer with a general understanding of application software and the internet.
+ Ability to learn office and university-specific software.
+ Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
+ Ability to maintain effective working relationships.
+ Ability to train and supervise others.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain Texas driver’s license, SFA permit, and van certification.
+ Physical condition adequate to permit full performance of duties.
Physical Demands
Required Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Required Experience and Training
Two years of related experience is required. Basic understanding of motor vehicle maintenance and repair and equipment maintenance and repair is required. Valid Texas driver’s license is required at time of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in natural resource related field is preferred. Experience in the maintenance and repair of natural resource field equipment is preferred.

This position is 30 hours/week.

This position is eligible for participation in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas retirement plan, subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
