Job Description
MAIN FUNCTIONS:
Provide administrative, training, and education support to the Support Services unit in addition to having mastered all skills and competencies as a Clinical Laboratory Assistant (CLA). The Support Services Designated Trainer is responsible for new hire onboarding, training, and support services continuing education. The Support Services Designated Trainer reports to the Supports Services Manager.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
CORE COMPETENCIES: In addition to meeting all the core competencies of a CLA, will be expected to take on the additional duties identified below:
+ Assists in developing and maintaining the training curriculum for Phlebotomy (including Nursing Home/Home Draw, draw station areas, Inpatient), Registration and Ordering, Accessioning, and Courier services.
+ To ensure consistency in processes, trainers must follow the approved curriculum, which mirrors the documented policies, procedures, and required CLSI standards.
+ Assumes training responsibilities as assigned in all areas of Support Services, which includes providing feedback to the Manager regarding employees’ progress or improvement.
+ Observes employee performance for competency assessment and completes the required documentation. Provides feedback to staff directly when deviations for policy or procedure are observed and must inform the manager of such incidents.
+ Assists with addressing the results of Patient Experience surveys including communicating with patients, team members, and implementing action plans for improvement.
+ Assists the Manager in assuring that all areas are adequately covered to minimize any disruption of services and provide coverage as needed.
+ Makes the Manager aware of any issues or concerns relevant to the CLAs, Lab staff or operational safety issues.
+ It is understood that this lists typical duties for the classification and is not to be considered inclusive of all duties which may be assigned.
General Responsibilities:
+ Assist in organizing and prioritizing workload.
+ Is familiar with and maintains all regulations appropriate to assigned duties and is ready for unannounced inspections by regulatory agencies and ArnotHealth staff and committees.
+ Maintains a clean and orderly work environment.
+ Employee understands and demonstrates the importance of satisfying the needs of the customer/patient by interacting with him/her in a friendly and caring way, being attentive to the customer’s needs, both psychologically and physically, and by taking the initiative to maintain communication with the customer in order to provide a secure and pleasant experience with the Medical Center.
+ Is familiar with and demonstrates Quality Improvement principles and participates in the process as appropriate.
+ Is responsible for attending all annual mandatory educational programs as required by position.
+ Attends continuing education and staff meetings as appropriate
+ Provides age-appropriate care to neonate, infant, children, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or equivalent is required. At least two years of healthcare experience is required. 1-3 years of Clinical Laboratory Assistant experience required. Computer keyboard skills and navigation are required. Completion of a phlebotomy training program or equivalent experience is preferred. Medical terminology and/or knowledge of basic anatomy is preferred. A valid driver’s license is required as the employee will be required to travel to perform duties and assigned tasks.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Physical effort required. Required to frequently lift objects up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift objects up to 40 pounds. Moderate reaching, bending, and stooping. Required to be on one’s feet much of the time.
