Summary:
Reports to the Director of the Center of Practice Excellence and is responsible for coordinating non-nursing functions on patient care units to ensure appropriate supplies and equipment are available. Functions as liaison between Nursing and other hospital departments to resolve related problems and to coordinate projects related to the organization and setup of new and existing units.
Responsibilities:
Makes rounds on patient care units to deliver or locate items collect charge cards locate lost belongings for inpatients and to identify potential support service problems and needs of units. Assists in the implementation of changes in unit policies and procedures related to support services and monitoring compliance to same.
Responsible for arranging for maintenance and repair of unit equipment and facilities. Maintains related records.
Utilizes computer terminal to enter purchase requisition data into the ESI database and track requisitions for non-routine or large supply items and equipment; orders same and accepts supply and equipment orders from receiving. Labels items and arranges for them to be assembled and/or checked for safety requirements. Arranges for distribution of supplies and equipment to units or stores for alternative use. Maintains records pertaining to supply requisitions. May contact vendors to obtain information and arrange demonstrations as needed.
Maintains current list of patient monitors continuous passive motion machines rental beds and other patient care equipment. Initiates charges to patients for rental equipment.
Provides payment vouchers for taxi fare to discharge patients who cannot provide or pay for transportation.
Functions as liaison between Nursing and other service departments. Communicates with non-nursing departments such as Stores Pharmacy and Central Sterilization for the purpose of locating supplies and resolving related problems.
Reviews and provides input such as cost and availability to capital equipment budget for identified items.
Coordinates a variety of special projects generally involving the planning and acquisition of clinical and non-clinical items for new or existing units such as supplies non-capital and capital equipment. Recommends permanent and temporary utilization of space. Assists with transfer of patients to new or temporary units. May assist in coordination of renovation projects on units including completion of project request forms project costing coordinating non-nursing department services and arranging for transfer and installation of equipment.
Responds to questions from clinical managers regarding budget variance reports.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Requires knowledge equivalent to high school education.
Requires the interpersonal skills to interface with vendors employees nursing personnel and other departments to exchange information and resolve problems.
Requires the conceptual ability to identify and resolve routine problems within areas of responsibility.
Requires knowledge of database spreadsheet and word processing software.
Requires the ability to instruct employees in data entry and identify needs for and implement additional programs.
EXPERIENCE:
Requires two to three year�s progressively more responsible hospital in a patient or healthcare setting.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Exposure to normal patient care atmosphere.
Requires considerable walking within hospital to all patient care units. Some light lifting involved.
