PSE's Electric Operations team is looking for qualified candidates to fill an open Supv Power Dispatch position!

Job Description

Supervises power dispatch operations ensuring transmission system and generation resources function in a safe, reliable, and efficient manner.  Works with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to facilitate and enhance the Load Office’s ability to support power system reliability, employee safety and compliance with FERC (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission), NERC (North American Electric Reliability Corporation) and WECC (Western Electricity Coordinating Council) requirements. May work shift or non-standard hours depending on role being filled.

The Load Office is a 24/7 real-time operation that monitors, operates, and controls PSE’s high voltage transmission system (55kV and above) and company-owned thermal and renewable generation assets.  The Load Office operates as a NERC-registered Balancing Authority and Transmission Operator within the WECC region.

Upholds the safety compliance standards inherent in PSE’s operating and/or field procedures related to work responsibilities. Promotes and supports a culture of total safety.

This job is considered “safety sensitive” as defined in RCW 49.44.240 and is subject to pre-employment drug screening that includes screening for the presence of marijuana and marijuana metabolites.

Job Responsibilities Employee Safety, Development & Team Building - Providing employees with coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities and building effective teams: Demonstrates a passion for safety. Promotes and supports a culture of total safety including eliminating at-risk behaviors by conducting safety audits and inspections, eliminating hazards and near misses, and attending safety meetings. Sets clear expectations and holds employees accountable for performance as well as safety goals/targets where applicable. Oversees training and development of employees directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions. Ensures required training is successfully completed. Challenges and inspires employees to achieve business results. Accountable to ensure employees adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements, as well as safety standards. Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews and development plans. Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to team members in order to achieve employee, business, customer and safety results. Coordinates staff activities to ensure that PSE’s electric transmission grid is operated in a safe and reliable manner in compliance with NERC and WECC standards and FERC Orders. Provides guidance, when necessary, during system or resource emergencies and other abnormal system or resource conditions. Depending on Role, may supervise the outage coordinators in scheduling and approving outages as well as the training SME who provides operator expertise to the Training Department personnel supporting the Load Office.  Provides input and recommendations associated with projects or initiatives to enhance the overall efficiencies within the Load Office. Maintains effective relationships with neighboring system operational leaders, e.g. RC West Reliability Coordinator, and may represent PSE at associated meetings with external entities. Participates in compliance activities, including audits and self-certification. Acts as a liaison between the Load Office and PSE’s Merchant function. Supervises the completion of reports and provide information requested by the Reliability Coordinator as well as other Balancing Authorities, Transmission Operators, and Generator Operators within the region. On-call 24/7 to respond to system emergencies, storms, and other events as they may arise. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Obtain NERC Balancing, Interchange, or Transmission Operator Certification within 1 year. 4 years proven record of accomplishment in a Control Center or other operations/utility environment, including prior supervisory/leadership experience. Strong negotiating, problem solving and conflict resolution skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills and an ability to interact with all levels of the corporation. Advanced spreadsheet and computer skills. Desired Qualifications NERC Reliability Operator Certification. Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering. Knowledge of BPA power and transmission cost and revenue structures specifically 5 years of which occurred in the Pacific Northwest region. Knowledge of financial and accounting principles. Experience with GE E-Tera EMS, PCI, MCG, and OATi products. Ability to work in a diverse interest group. Additional Information

The pay range for this position is $133,800.00 - $222,700.00, and this position is eligible for annual goals based incentive bonuses.
