Primary Purpose

Supervises the installation, repair and preventive maintenance functions on plumbing and piping systems, to ensure systems are code compliant and ensuring 24-hour continuous operations for the hospital while adhering to safety procedures.

 

Minimum Specifications

 

Education:

Must have a High School diploma or GED equivalent.

 

Experience:

Must have six (6) years of experience in plumbing, to include supervisory experience.

 

Equivalent Education and/or Experience:

May have an equivalent combination of education and experience to substitute for the experience requirements.

 

Certification/Registration/Licensure:

Must possess a Journeyman Plumbers license from the State of Texas. Prefer Master Plumbers license from the State of Texas. Prefer to possess a Medical Gas Endorsement from the State of Texas.

Skills or Special Abilities:

Must be able to interpret and communicate technical manuals related to plumbing systems and components to staff members. Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and specifications for installation and repair of plumbing systems and components. Must be able to install and repair plumbing and Medical Gas systems and components Must be able to prepare estimates for work required. Must be able to demonstrate basic computer skills. Must be able to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing. Must be able to demonstrate effective organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills. Must be able to demonstrate effective supervisory skills and techniques. Must be physically able to lift heavy loads, walk, and stand for extended periods, climb ladders, and crawl into confined spaces.

 

Responsibilities:

1. Selects, trains, schedules, motivates, supervises, and evaluates employees, making recommendations for disciplinary actions up to and including termination, to ensure maximum utilization of individual and group capabilities. Ensures that assigned employees receive opportunities to further their knowledge.

2. Supervises the installation, repair and maintenance of the utility systems (water, sewer, storm drain, Medical Gas, and vacuum systems), ensuring around the clock operations in order for the hospital to provide continuous patient services. Monitors maintenance programs and updates as needed. Performs routine inspections of work in progress to ensure proper and timely completion. Utilizes available resources to ensure prompt and efficient services to Parkland.

3. Develops and updates preventive maintenance plan ensuring implementation and carry through of program. Conducts routine inspections of (plumbing and Medical Gas systems and components), checking for needed repairs and avoiding down time. Demonstrates logical and systematic planning of outages in order to minimize downtime, risk, and inconvenience to Parkland.

4. Inspects installation of plumbing systems installed at PHHS to ensure code compliance and standard plumbing practices.

5. Requisitions and distributes supplies, equipment, and replacement parts for repairs and maintenance work orders for work to be completed as needed.

6. Assists with developing, implementing, monitoring, and revising annual goals and objectives for the plumbing team, that support the missions and objectives of Parkland.

7. Maintains a positive working relationship with management, vendors, and other hospitals employees, in order to ensure effective departmental operations.

8. Monitors annual budgets to ensure the plumbing team has the necessary funds to carry out the goals and objectives that have been established for the department.
