Surg Services Scheduler
POSITION STANDARDS Requires high school diploma or equivalent Candidates with a knowledge of medical terminology and past medical environment experience are preferred. Requires capacity to work independently while ensuring excellent communication and coordination with providers, hospital surgical schedulers, payers, patients. Demonstrated ability to think critically. Excellent customer service required. Excellent computer skills, excel and word proficiency required. Working knowledge of CPT and ICD-10. Strong understanding of insurance pre-certification, authorization and benefits determination. POSITION PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Anything listed here requires a pre-employment physical by Employee Health to determine if the employee is capable of meeting the requirements. Position Objective Works closely with surgeons and hospital staff to accurately and quickly schedule surgeries. Communicates, both in written and verbal form,
with patients on a regular basis to schedule surgeries. Works with payers to obtain preauthorization and benefit determination for surgical
interventions.

 

Performance Expectation Receives surgical scheduling request from providers. Scans request to ensure completeness of information. Obtains all certifications and pre-authorizations from patient insurer. Verify benefits, patient co-pay and deductible. Schedules in accordance with surgical scheduling guidelines, ensuring appropriate pre-operative clearance is obtain in a timely manner. Obtains first assist, when appropriate. Coordinates specialty assists with other surgical offices when needed. Communicates and coordinates effectively with Preoperative Coordinators, clearly articulating the needs of the surgeon for each case. Schedules pre-op and post-op visits within the appropriate timeframes. Releases OR time when appropriate and authorized by Surgeons. Negotiates OR time outside of block schedule when required. Provides backup coverage for RN in putting in pre op surgical orders per provider protocol. Communicates with patient regarding appointments pending or requiring patient to schedule. Communicates with providers and nursing staff regarding the status of patients in the surgical process. Sends certified letters to patients as required by the process. Other duties as assigned
