Job Summary: Manages surgery implants. Maintains appropriate levels of surgery inventory including surgery implants; performs tracking of orders, repairs, warranties, loans and maintains related regulatory documents including SMDA (Safe Medical Device Act) documentation. Acts as a liaison to surgeon's office for procurement of special orders. Minimum Education: Graduate of accredited Surgical Technology Program or minimum of two years prior experience in surgery implant management position. Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: CST (Certified Surgical Technologist), preferred. Work Experience: 1 year surgery scrub experience and/or 2 years in surgery implant purchasing and/or equivalent medical purchasing experience. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Access as might be used in the preparation of correspondence and reports. Effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Ability to interface with all levels of staff including management and surgeons. Ability to integrate the analysis of data to discover facts or develop knowledge, concepts or interpretations. Ability to organize and prioritize work in an effective and efficient manner. Ability to be detail oriented as required in the examination of numerical data. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Orders and maintains needed implants/consignment inventory. Prepares for projected usage of other supplies, as needed, including consumable supplies. Maintains required regulatory documentation related to implants. Enters and tracks data on the computer system on all purchase orders, repairs, warranties and loans. Communicates with staff members and customers with problem solving and resolution of implant issues on a daily basis to assure availability for quality patient care. Acts as a liaison between Instrumentation Systems, Central Sterile, Purchasing, Surgery and Patient Accounts for all surgery implant issues. Utilizes surgery knowledge base to facilitate the identification of cost containment within service line implants. Checks Operating Rooms (OR) schedule daily to evaluate specific needs and communicates appropriate to define and resolve problems and promote continuity of service. Other duties as assigned. Maintains ORSOS cost information and assures that all implants are appropriately charged. Completes assigned reports and cycle counts for inventory status and budget projections. Assists as needed with timely processing of surgery charges. Provides management with appropriate implant utilization reports based on accurate utilization of information systems for ordering and logging implants. Decision Making: Independent judgment in making decisions involving non-routine problems under general supervision. Working Relationships: Leads others in same work performed (does not supervise). Has input on performance evaluations but does not prepare or give. Works directly with patients and/or customers. Works with internal customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with external customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff. Works frequently with individuals at Director level or above.
