Surgery Support Spec II
Overview Starting pay for this position is $17.14/hour. POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Manager and Assistant Patient Care Manager and according to department policies provide appropriate basic nursing care to patients based on the ages of the patients served on the unit(age newborn through adult). This includes but not inclusive to taking vital signs, specimen collection, point of care testing, assisting anesthesia, transporting patients, directing families as needed, completing inventory and restocking supplies as needed for the department, and observing patients for physical/emotional changes. He/she will assist the RN in the care of perioperative patients according to department guidelines. He/she will communicate pertinent information to other patient care team members to ensure continuity of care. The following are general characteristics of this job, although duties may vary by assigned unit. Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Candidate should posses the knowledge and skills to provide patient care appropriate to the age of patients served on their unit. This requires knowledge of the principles of growth and developments as well as, physical, emotional, and psycho-social needs of the patient population being served at a level normally acquired through completion of nursing assistant program. Ability to read, write, communicate effectively, understand and follow instructions as normally acquired through completion of high school. Must be at least 18 years old to be considered for this position. Work requires CPR Certification. Interpersonal skills necessary to comfort patients, family members and/or significant others, and to communicate effectively with other patient care providers. Work requires three to six months of unit-specific orientation and on-the-job training to become familiar with work routines, priorities, and location of applicable equipment and supplies, and develop proficiency in maintaining surgical supplies and equipment. Analytical abilities necessary to prioritize the work load. Work requires basic understanding of communication equipment such as pagers and phones.
