Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent.
If competency is achieved (attainment of competency test score required by department management) and upon successful completion of departmental orientation, the employee will be promoted to Surgical Aide.
If competency is not achieved, employee must be moved out of this position or terminated in accordance with IH policy and procedures. Good communications skills.
Working knowledge of OR instruments, equipment and procedures.

ResponsibilitiesThis position is intended to be assigned to an employee for a timeframe of no more than 8 weeks in order to accommodate and provide training and completion of departmental orientation for Surgical Aide. Upon successful completion of the training and orientation, the employee should be promoted into the Surgical Aide position in accordance with IH policy and procedures.
With review, this timeframe may be extended up to an additional 4 weeks. If the training and orientation are not successfully completed, the employee should be removed from this position in accordance with IH policy and procedures.
Position Purpose and Scope of Responsibility:
To receive training to competently hold retractors as directed by the surgical team. Will successfully learn to assist with cleaning, preparing, storing, distributing, and maintaining various supplies, equipment and instruments to assure efficiency and patient safety in the operating room under the supervision and direction of the Circulator RN and Scrub Position Staff member.
