Accountabilities/Criteria PATIENT CARE SKILLS Identifies the physiologic changes induced by surgery and uses this information to provide appropriate patient care. Identifies the physiologic changes induced by general, regional, and local anesthesia and uses this information to provide appropriate patient care. Identifies the pathophysiology of trauma, and uses this information to provide appropriate patient care. Maintains a surgically safe environment during surgery. Demonstrates advanced knowledge of surgical anatomy and operative techniques. SURGICAL/OPERATIVE INTERVENTIONS Patient positioning Prepping and draping Applying clamps Tying knots Cauterizing bleeders Sponging the operative field Holding retractors Suctioning Suturing to include following and cutting Cleaning of operative area Applying dressings Transferring patient to stretcher Job Requirements Education and Training: Current licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Experience and Knowledge: PA: 2 years experience as a surgical first assistant TRAUMA experience Preferred Registration, Licensure and/or Certification: ***While on Trauma call - arrival time within 15 min (on site on-call room available*** Physical Demands and Sensory Requirements: Moderate physical effort: lift/carry up to 10-30 lbs.
