Vernon **Worker Type:** Regular **Job Summary:** Provides direct assistance to surgeons during surgical procedures. **Job Responsibilities and Requirements:** PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES + Positions patient to give best exposure for surgical procedure, using stabilizing equipment when necessary, while maximizing patient comfort and safety. + Provides visualization of the operative site using appropriate method, including manipulation of tissue and materials, retraction, sponging, suctioning and irrigation. + Utilizes appropriate technique to achieve temporary and permanent hemostasis. + Assists with body plane closure, application of wound dressings and securing of drainage systems. + Assists in room clean up and removal of the soiled case cart, supplies, and trash from operating room as needed at the completion of the surgical case. + Participates as a surgical team member in the preparation of the surgical suite according to surgeon's preference cards with appropriate instruments, resources and supplies. + Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner. + Performs other duties as assigned. EDUCATION + Associate's degree or Clinical Certification EXPERIENCE + Three years' experience PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS + Constant use of vision to judge distances and spatial relationships and to identify and distinguish colors. + Constant use of hearing to receive oral communication, distinguish body sounds and/or hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc. + Constant lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs. + Constant standing and walking. + Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs. + Frequent lifting/moving patients. + Frequent bending, stooping, reaching and gripping. + Frequent use of clear vision at 20 inches or less. + Frequent use of speech to share information through oral communication. + Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing over 50 lbs. + Occasional use of clear vision at 20 feet or more. + Occasional use of sitting, squatting, twisting and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements. + Occasional keyboard use/data entry. + Rare kneeling.
