Job Responsibilities

Assists the Surgeon in cardiovascular procedures Preps the surgical environment by ensuring all equipment is in place, sterilized, and ready for procedures Maintains the surgical skill proficiency by attending continuing education programs Educates and explains pre-operative and post-operative procedures to the patients, families and caregivers Participates in surgical team meetings to communicate patient care plans, procedures and protocols Monitors and maintains the inventory of surgical supplies and instruments Maintains clean surgical environment, providing necessary equipment and materials, and ensuring proper waste management May perform additional duties as assigned

Additional Requirements:

Working Hours:  Full-Time Days Minimum Education: Completion of Surgical First Assistant program through an accredited organization; or medical school graduate with surgical training; or completion of a surgical assistant training program during military service in the United States. Preferred: AAS in Surgical Assisting or Surgical Technologist Years of Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Surgical First Assistant; or 2 years of Surgical Technologist experience Certification: Basic Life Support-American Heart Association Preferred: National Surgical Assistant Certification issued by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), or the National Commission for Certification of Surgical Assistants (NCCSA) License: Must meet licensure criteria and be licensed as Surgical Assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia at time of hire.
