Surgical Scheduling Coordinator - Procedural Scheduling - Day

Hours

Full-Time: 80 Hours/Biweekly

8:00am - 4:30pm; Occasional 7:00am - 3:30pm

General Summary

Coordinates the surgical scheduling process and manages the day-to-day activities of the scheduling office. Pre-operatively facilitates the efficient and effective use of resources surrounding operative events by accurate and timely scheduling of operative event resources of time, personnel and materials according to policies, procedures and guidelines. Post-operatively facilitates effective review of operative events, instrumentation, and supply information by accurate input of data.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

Coordinates and manages the day-to-day activities of the scheduling office. Schedules surgical cases and verifies surgical closing information/data for completeness and accuracy from the Operative Procedure/Intraoperative Record. Facilitates creation of operating room schedule to maximize efficiency by scheduling physicians and procedures appropriately. Verifies and enters operating room usage to ensure accurate and complete patient charges, as well as maintaining the integrity of the operating room database. Performs necessary conflict checks, consistently intercepts potential scheduling conflicts, and independently works to resolve them, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team as needed. Demonstrates a working knowledge of surgical procedure documentation, supply nomenclature, sterile processing process and inventory management. Provides consistent high quality of service to patients, staff, physicians, physician offices and visitors. Rearranges schedule to maximize efficiency independently. Recommends improvements, processes, and reporting capabilities. Monitors data quality and integrity. Acts as a liaison between operating room staff, OR management, physicians and physician office staff. Acts as a resource for scheduling issues or questions.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

High School Diploma or GED Required

Work Experience:

1 year of surgical scheduling, database development and maintenance Required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Medical terminology Strong attention to detail Excellent interpersonal skills Effective written and oral skills in English Computer literacy and ability to utilize applications including but not limited to EPIC, Excel, and Microsoft Office Competency in computer data entry/retrieval systems Working knowledge of surgical procedure documentation, supply nomenclature, sterile processing process and inventory management You’re unique and you belong here.
